2 years ago Surfshark was 1# VPN and now it is the worst VPN service you can ever get

I got it for a killer deal 2 years ago, it was working just fine the last year but this year It just won’t work. “Connecting error”
Step 1 and step 2 blah blah…
I’m not even looking for solution no more.
Yes it is working on my iPhone devices but my laptop it just won’t work.
It’s also very laggy when lunch the app, cpu usage is almost 5% , free 4 GB ram and nothing.
Restart laptop same deal.
Fresh formatting same deal.
I’m not even using an anti virus.
Tried going through the settings but nothing.

Y’all have the same problem or it’s just me?

Edit: Holy Mosses canceling Auto-renewal is pain!
Like there is 10 steps before you can actually cancel, it’s well hidden deep in the support center, it’s not worth it people, click unsubscribe now before they take your money because it’s non-refundable.

They were shaky at first, then stellar. Then they decided they wanted to offer a suite of software, and merged with Nord, instead of being a stellar VPN service. I am paid up until like 2026, but currently using another VPN as my daily driver.

I use surfshark on a number of devices, Windows, Linux, Android phones, tablets and TV.

The only thing that annoys me a bit is that occationally it seems to want to connect to random VPN from the Android TV app, rather than the specific static I have configured it to use.

As for cancellations, I always cancel automatic reneal immediately after signing up. They start making me offers months before expiry.

Never noticed any load issues on any device. I guess some servers can be congested, that’s just the game with networking, but there are months between.

I’m sick and tired of all the bloatware they stick in the windows client though.

I hate to say it but every VPN subreddit is filled with complaints and negative reviews. I used PIA for 10 years and decided to switch to Surfshark. Personally I’m pretty happy but it’s not perfect either. The app is far more bloated than it needs to be and there doesn’t seem to be a way to use custom DNS servers on Android. But in terms of overall performance? It’s fine, and I’ve been satisfied with use whether it’s on Windows, Mac, iOS, or Android.

I have two recurring problems:

  1. [VERY OFTEN] Google searches trigger Captcha when Surfshark is on (And many of those fail, because, say, clicking on a box where a sliver of the target subject appears may or may not match the correct answer, so try again). A google search shouldn’t take 45 seconds after I hit return.
  2. [OCCASIONALLY] Slow speeds. Sometimes I’ll be on Amazon or another site, do a simple search or click to expand a photo, click a link, etc. and it will just hang or get stuck loading a new page. After 30 seconds, try again. Same thing. Turn off SurfShark, blazing fast (as I’d expect with a ~300 Mbps connection).

(sigh)

No issues here at all.
Most problems I see here can be attributed to either shared IPs which all VPNs have or people not simply using the supportchat… everyone is free to have their own opinion though so GL at wherever you end up

Surfshark is truly awful. I have used several different VPNs & this is the worst (including the free VPN). Good luck getting customer service or a refund.

Auto-Renewal a problem? Pay with crypto. For a VPN service, or anything other service. For services that don’t take crypto, use temporary cards–gift cards, re-loadable cards, managed-scope services like privacy.com, etc. There are lots of banks & credit unions that provide temp cards to their customers.

(privacy.com used to be great, but started using the horrifically awful Plaid service which should be avoided at all costs. their decision to use Plaid indicates to me that they wholly apathetic about their customers’ privacy or security. very poor judgement on privacy.com’s part.)

I had come to SurfShark from GoldenFrog (now Vypr) who was good then went to garbage. Coming to SurfShark was great at first, I even paid through 2024. Over the last month their service has for become a nightmare. Post first 30 days they will not refund a dime and so that tells you how much they believe in their service. When the only way to make a profit is by holding customers “hostage” means you know your service is lackluster at best. I’ve since gone to another provider as well. Not only was it super easy to configure for how I need it configured but the speeds have been incredibly faster than SurfShark ever performed at. I may have lost money, but learned a lesson and found a better provider. I will recommend to anyone though - stay away from SurfShark.

My main issue with them is the bypass function does not work. More specifically with Steam and Steam games.

Truthfully I did have major problems with SS at beginning, because I treated like my former VPN (which now owns SS). I never had a problem one with other one. Just came over here,(REDDIT)and learned to bind my client with VPN. Only problem I have now is with all the captcha crap, but apparently all VPNs have that. SS used to kill my laptop every update but that has stopped too. Being told I was no longer a customer and to pay again was irritating but that’s gone too. There is a reason this VPN is cheap. Yes I will leave in a few months because I just don’t trust the VPN

Forgot to put. When on Android it says Im on SS but Im not. This usually happens when phone sits awhile and I re-engage reading on net. Usually find out when I go to news aggregate site that gives your local news. Just have to remember to just turn SS off and on.

This sounds like what I’m dealing with.

Terrible quality VPN. Switched from NordVPN, which was OK. This is just awful - terrible IP quality, constantly flagged as high risk. Disconnects. Linux client, even direct openvpn access is terrible and unstable. Even free tier of ProtonVPN is better.

Yea i used surfshark for a year then switched to protonvpn and now i manage my own vpn company, no logs, 40Gbps connections, 120 lcoations. it’s fucking awesome.
surfshark is… yeah its near the bottom these days

Why ChatGPT bans me when I have Surfshark on?

I’ve been using Surfshark for the last 2 years. Have 3 months left.

The only issue I’ve had which is resolved now, was that the killswitch on mobile wasn’t the most reliable. If the connection dropped it allowed a connection still but from my real IP.

They fixed this a good while back and I don’t have any other complaints.

I’ll actually be switching to a different VPN provider when this subscription is done but it’s because the IPTV service I use gives you one for free so may as well save a bit of money with it.

I am having the capcha trigger happen. Is anyone else having difficulty using multiple apps like PokemonGo or Facebook [now my family things I’m angry]? I basically can make and receive phone calls on my phone now. I can’t really take advantage of wifi.
