Previously the AI function was working fine for me with VPN, and it was actually off all the way (except right at the start).
Not sure why suddenly it seems to check the location and realized it’s no longer in US.
Edit:
This is about normal AI functions, not the beta or early access.
Solved:
I used a VPN, and updated my app (happened that there was an update so I didn’t need to reinstall) and the normal AI functions were available again. Thanks to everyone who helped!
This is not the beta access. Just the normal AI functions. Such as asking normal stuff.
What I’m asking if it’s a general thing that’s happening to all users outside US or was it something I did accidentally that made it say “Sorry I cannot do that right now”.
The very day after my last comment, I lost most AI functionality. This time though, there was a notification on the app that (despite still having the AI option on the app), the feature were disabled due to my location outside the USA. This was very different than the first time where the app itself did not offer AI features.
So, while I took a day to figure out what to do… that limitation went a way AND a new notification said that AI functionality was now open.
I’m not sure if that means the beta program is over, or if it is just no longer restricted by geography, or if this entire block/unblock was a glitch.
Did you find any difference?
Maybe you don’t need a VPN anymore.
How many times does this need to be posted? Lives in a country where glasses may not be sold or app is not even available in the App store. Sideloads or uses new fake iCloud event to load app. Uses VPN to tunnel to the US and luckily gets into Early Access (which is meant for US only and btw MOST US Meta owners do not even have access to). Complains that Meta AI doesn’t reply to their questions in their native Slovakian or EA features no longer work.
Yup I was reading through comments and I think this was what happened to me.
I’ll have to find a vpn again, I never really use VPN and I can’t remembered which one I used previously haha.
But I’m glad it wasn’t something that removes the access permanently. (Tbh I haven’t used the AI functions that much, I should use it more often, especially now that the volume is louder - I couldn’t hear it previously when the surroundings were not quiet, it’s good now)
Found out that some updates will remove the basic AI functions.
Will need to reinstall again
Some users may not know, but the glasses are just a camera and Bluetooth headset outside the US, which is why you see users trying to get the AI functions.
Of course, I understand the beta access is limited and when many people use vpn to get it, it sorts of limits the access even more, especially to the targeted market.
But for me, I’m just happy to get AI functions (the really basic ones that all your glasses come with) working for me.
I didn’t receive any notification.
However, I was not in the beta program, so our scenarios might be different.
I did not update my app also, which also could be one of the reasons.
When I solved it, I was on VPN and updated the app. So I can’t be sure if VPN is required, though I still think likely so. Haha
Will take note if I had such an occurrence happening again and update here.
Thank you for the update, I certainly hope the beta phase is almost over and everyone can try it out. I think it’s pretty great to have the AI responding to what you want it to see.
people outside the US are humans too! probably better humans on average. Just because some dumb shit company like facebook said US only, it doesn’t mean we have to listen. They can go implode and cease to exist for all I care
I envy US locale customers, you get the glasses at retail price. I have to spend approximately 2x the pricing for both my Stories and my Metas. (And I technically don’t have warranty which is why I couldn’t send in my Stories though it’s within warranty period)
I’m not taking any slots nor complaining about any languages, just asking if there’s something that removes basic AI functions/support for anyone that’s not in US.
How did you manage to download the US version of the app. When I use vpn and try to re-download the view app it looks to be downloading the Canadian version. Even with wifi off I can’t get it to work. Did you log into a US App Store account to download the view app?
The majority of users on the beta are in the US, so nothing will have changed for them. The rest probably just accept that we were holding it together with sticky tape and prayers, so it was only a matter of time.
Thanks. I have one as well but on my iPhone it says I need to cancel all my subscriptions before switching to my US account. I don’t recall seeing that in past years. I’ll mess around with it and see if I can figure it out though.
Oh. That sounds scary, cancelling all your subscriptions. Though it’s more likely about recurring fees, so they’ll off all your auto renewals.
I guess they’re afraid you have subscriptions left running and you won’t be able to use it, and then later you might have to dispute the charges - so perhaps they’re trying to prevent all these troubles for the customers.
