Anyone use KeepSolid VPN

Engadget currently has a promotion for a lifetime subscription of KeepSolid VPN for $40, apparently usually $500 USD. Ive never heard of it or used it so I was just curious for input.

Never heard of it. The adage ‘if it seems to good to be true, it usually is’ comes to mind. If someone’s giving something away, do you trust the value they say you’re getting?

Lifetime subscriptions for this kind of thing are a bad idea - the company’s financial incentives are to sell as many lifetime subscriptions as they can and then go out of business a couple years later and start a new company selling lifetime subscriptions. I have used macsentry in the past (it works with any platform not just macs) and paid under $20 a year with one of their promotions, which seemed like a good value to me.

I’ve used keep solid for a few years and they are fine. The only two demerits are that Netflix and Hulu pick up you are using a VPN much of the time and block you if you are wanting to watch USA content. Similarly TVNZ picked up I was using a VPN when I want watch NZ news. They have dedicated servers for torrents which might be an issue. I was able to download their code onto my portable router which circumvented their limit on the number of machines you can run their app on. They are not obviously fly by night but I keep to a 3 monthly subscription.

It’s crap for torrents. There are only a limited number of servers in which they allow torrents, and on the one’s they do, they throttle the number of connections allowed so your speed will be slow.

Been using for 4-5 years. Never an issue. Also got the lifetime.
