Caution - McAfee® Security for Mobile will eat (drain) your batter super fast. In less than 1/2 hour (30 minutes) my battery went from 100% to 94%, draining my battery by 6% in under an hour. It also slowed down my phone some. I am using a midrange phone (Nokia 5.3) that is only 2 years old. T-mobile should have picked either ESET, Bitdefender, or Kaspersky. Instead they picked McAfee, one of the two common (2nd Norton) anti-viruses bundled with new computers, that most people uninstall (remove) with good reason to do so.
Who uses antivirus on a phone?
I’ve never even thought of this type of software on my Apple phone, is this something Google phone customers need to worry about?
You couldn’t pay me to put McAfee malware on my device
T-Mobile McAfee security claimed my Comcast password protected 5G WiFi is unsecured. Latest Comcast was just upgraded last night. Comcast modem, router claims to limit my connections to MAC list. But new Comcast Security Management has made several update announcement that are not true, Comcast support staff isn’t updated, pointing customer to obsolete sites.
these are the reasons we switch to apple products
I’ve used the Comodo AV/Firewall/etc security suites on all my devices/platforms for years. I use the free versions, but there’s paid ones with a few extra features. Never a problem and I think everything has been as secure as possible. I like their Dragon browsers too; two versions, 1 Chrome , 1 Firefox based.
Yes, any AV app is going to burn a little more battery power, they have to use system resources to run. But the tradeoff is more than worth it, and I run it on many different phone and device types. The AV uses less daily power than using the 5G network [I’ve compared it].
Try it out, think y’all will like it.
I rarely see anyone mention Comodo, but as a nerd for more than 5 decades [professionally and at home], I’ll vouch for it as certainly one of the best available.
Comodo has versions for about every platform there is.
Used to use the Avira AV since the '80s, but years ago it got glitchy and I switched to Comodo, which I had been trying out on other devices.
On my Android phones it’s the Comodo Mobile Security Antivirus app [current version 5.2.0042].

Comodo Company website, for all products [they’re very BFD commercially]:
I don’t have any issues with it.
I feel that you should have posted battery drain without the app running/installed for comparison. As it is, I have no meaningful benchmark for the numbers you are quoting
It’s literally unnecessary bloatware, T-Mobile gets paid to have it forced on your phone
Yeah it is. I avoid anti virus apps on my phone. And the major ones for windows are a memory hog. I just use windows built in virus protection.
HP Computer and Dell Computer both have either Norton or McAfee bundled with their new computers and it’s the first thing I learned to uninstall (remove). Doing so felt like I gained an upgrade and solved most, if not all, issues I was facing. The only reason they are often bundled is because they pay well to be included on new devices and because of brand recognition.
I have tried ESET, Bitdefender, and Kaspersky on Linux, Android, Apple, iOS, and Microsoft Windows and they all seem to get the job done without issue. But anytime I have thought to give either McAfee or Norton a try, I have sorely regret it.
These days, unfortunately, even so-called safe apps directly from either the Google Play Store or Apple Store, does not guarantee they are safe. You often hear how some person with bad intentions have snuck by the gatekeepers and was installed on millions of devices, by innocent people. From games to presumed useful apps being bundled with junk you would not wish on anyone.
It is 2022 and the world has gone mobile. Unfortunately, that means so have viruses, trojans, keyloggers, hijackers, and many other bad things you would not want on your phone or tablet. It is better to be safe and not sorry.
T-Mobile specifically has a deal with McAfee and offers this service for free to T-Mobile customers because of our data being hacked through T-Mobile. So that’s who uses antiviruses on phones. They’re actually very vulnerable.

It is something everyone should worry about. Apple is not immune. It was not long ago that malware was circulating around Apple iPhone. Apple iPhone Users Need To Be Careful About This Dangerous Malware: All Details - News18
Regardless of what device you use or operating system, be it Linux, Android, Apple, iOS, or Windows, there are viruses, trojans, malware, hijackers, and other bad things you should consider protecting yourself from. And bad people are getting more creative, doing better job at hiding their intentions in seemingly popular apps and games found on both the Apple and Google stores.
It’s not. Play services is enough protection for most people. Even pirating APKs(which the majority of people don’t do) apps get scanned for malware. Unless you install 30 review non popular apps you’ll be relatively safe.
Most people reading this should keep it moving. Don’t waste battery life on a somewhat redundant service. Modern Windows/Android doesn’t benefit from AV protection as much anymore.
Anyone that has service with T-Mobile should be using it. T-Mobile was hacked and a bunch of customer data was stolen, including Social Security numbers, phone numbers , birthdates , email addresses etc.
Thankfully, I can easy enough remove (uninstall) McAfee as easily as I added (installed) it to give it a try. I had 1/2 hoped that the copy offered through T-mobile would have been customized somehow, beyond the branding and logo. –I know, wishful thinking, but since it’s included and would have cost me nothing, I thought it would be worth the try.
I cannot imagine having it bundled into my phone as a system app. Does that really happen? If so, I imagine it is another reason why I never buy phones through service providers (Tmobile, Sprint, etc…) and always buy directly from the manufacturer whenever possible.

McAfee (or Norton) pre-installed onto your router or modem? That’s a scary thought. I would be looking for away to flash custom firmware if that was mine. lol
