I’ve been a loyal customer for several years now and loved the service. It’s not always been perfect but it is nicer to use than almost all other password managers.
Now, in 2024 they’ve randomly decided to only allow annual payments and then they pull support for their Authenticator app. I could handle the annual billing, although it’s an incredibly stupid decision, but why the Authenticator app? It works so well with the main app. It’s like we’re witnessing some kind of social experiment where a company tries to lose customers.
The Authenticator app is discontinued but the MFA functionality is moved within the main app, which I find actually much nicer, but that can be subjective.
Yes, you’ll need a MFA app just to basically store that 1 code for Dashlane, but that’s a minor inconvenience imo.
Curious though… as a “loyal customer for several years now” how does paying the annual subscription bother you to the point of potentially leaving this product?
As a loyal customer wouldn’t you already be on an annual subscription by now?
You already happily used the app for years, so paying monthly would just be throwing extra money away.
I’d be bothered more as a new customer, and probably be scared away towards competitors
I’ve had a subscription for a few years and they suddenly bumped up the yearly cost to 5 times what I’m paying now. This is blatant extortion. Its going to be a pain but I’m looking for an alternate. Any advice for alternatives? They should rather provide tiered subscriptions because I don’t need the VPN or addons. Dashlane, you will be loosing customers with this crap.
The Authenticator app was redundant. Dashlane autofills my OTP codes. I had the Authenticator app and never used it because the same functionality exists in the main dashlane app.
They increased the price in 350% here in Brazil, I’ve been a customer since 2017? Or something like that, lost track of time with the pandemic. Now I’m looking for a replacement. Tried contacting them by e-mail, and they just said they put a bunch of things, which we have not requested, and that’s their new price, take it or leave it.
Which isn’t a good VPN by any means. It literally starts a service that isn’t needed on Windows, so it pops up from time to time even if you have startup disabled, and the company has been in bad waters before for selling people’s data. On top of that, the extension doesn’t work well, and the main app for Windows works when it wants to. Dashlane couldn’t care less about their single customers anymore, especially with their chat support now being mainly a bot (that goes around in circles) and a bigger lack of response and support.
They bump prices on top of increasing AI implementation for customer “support” and getting rid of actual people in their company.
That and they don’t even have basic functionality like dark mode for their extension/web app yet, and it’s 2024. They scrap features and things that are highly requested stay like that for ages.
But bump the prices. It’s not a worthy app anymore, this is a corporation that just cares about money and nothing else.
I’m thinking about going to Bitwarden too, were you able to export your passwords and notes without issues from Dashlane to Bit? And what about autofill, does it work well? I do like how dashlane autofill works.
Yep the export/import process was surprisingly easy and if you take out their cheapest subscription it automatically imports your 2FA codes and stores them in the app. The autofill in Chrome is good but maybe not as polished as Dashlane but it’s close enough. Plus it cost me $10 for the year, which is crazy!
Yeah just did the transition to Bitwarden after 7 years of Dashlane Premium, shame. Got the premium for Warden too, a bit worried how they are making money with the free option being so good.
