Hello! I am relocating to Mainland China and I saw on here that Astrill VPN seems to be the most recommended VPN. When purchasing it, do I need to do the Private IP and/or the VIP add-on (data package)?
If I do need the Private IP, what Private IP location do I choose? Is it China? What’s the difference between Supercharged 1-6?
For the VIP add-on (data package), what speed is reasonable? I will mainly just be surfing the internet, watching some YouTube videos, and torrenting a few things.
I’ve tried Purevpn, Surfshark, Expressvpn and they all suck.
Astrill works everytime, all the time.
Geph does work but speed are slow, even on the subscription option.
On Astrill I’ve found that occasionally a location may not connect but it’s usually temporary and there’s a huge number of options so it’s not a problem.
I was in China for 2 years before COVID and Astrill was my first choice back then. I’ve been back in China a week and, once again, Astrill out performs Surfshark and Geph.
Surfshark is disappointing as they claim it’ll work in China. I’ve only tried it at the Uni where I’m based and on China Telecom. I was hoping Surfshark would work because it’s so much cheaper than Astrill.
I’ve decided to stick with Astrill.
I also don’t think it’s necessary to pay for anything other than the standard service. You don’t need the add-on options initially.
Honestly, people shouldn’t be mentioning VPNs like that here. They literally give pop-ups ASKING PEOPLE NOT TO ADVERTISE. Once word gets out, the government starts throttling them and they become useless. So nice job.
The regular version was okay for me until I wanted to play an online game, then I had to get the VIP version for a stable connection. It solved most of my problems and I thought it was worthwhile.
I have the same question too. When you’re in China, which location of the private ip do you choose if you plan to use Astril for US websites like Youtube or Netflix?
Astrill is a scam. Closed source software to which they sell all of your data and they keep logs of what you’re browsing. You’ll get internet access but you will lose any and all privacy. Find another way.
Lol do you really think the powers that be are not aware of Astrill?
It’s been going for 10+ years.
The pop up you’re referring to was back in like 2015. Nothing since. They know that people will mention it publicly… people do… and yet, it remains and is the only one that works properly.
The China IP is for Chinese apps so people outside of China can still get their daily serve of content, the US one would possibly allow USA content, unless the ip’s have been blocked previously.
