Astrill VPN troubles

Hey guys I’m really new to China and read up a bit on Astrill. From what i have read it should work for YouTube and google searches. However when I try to turn on the VPN, every website returns as “server not responding” both on chrome and safari.

I have contacted Astrill support and their troubleshooting did not help me at all. I was hoping any of you could give me some insight as for why my connection is not working?

Currently using iOS with the latest Astrill app

Edit: perfect example, can access reddit with normal internet connection. Turn on Astrill and site no longer loads

How do you connect? OpenWeb? It’s not enough for me on my Windows laptop, where I need to use the Stealth option, but on my Linux box it does the job very well.

Try to do a speed test to find if the issue is limited to one server or several.

That sounds like a dns thing. Play with the dns settings in the astrill client.

With Astrill, using live support is often the best way to deal with issues. They can remotely diagnose issues and tell you which servers and settings are likely to work.

that said, my astrill is currently excellent, i’ve been watching 1080p youtube and bbc iplayer which is plenty good enough for me

i have had trouble with astrill during the weekend, but it happened only with certain country servers, and switching the countries solved that… does it work fine on your pc/laptop or it also has the same problem?

To be fair, it was an American company- Cisco I think- who provided them with the technology to set it up

I’ve tried multiple countries, none of them work. I actually don’t have a pc or laptop with me just and iPad and iPhone

I don’t think so, huawei is at least as technology- sophisticated as cisco. Selling something is different from being a cornerstone for a project.

I have been trying to break into GFW for a while but it’s becoming a more frustrating experience since about 2 to 3 years ago. It has a huge whitelist whichever traffic that is not on it is randomly cut off. The same project that I worked on, can get free cellular data though, which is a nice byproduct.

Do you have a foreign App Store account? (Not Chinese) Download every Free VPN app until you find one that works. I’m using Hexatech and Star VPN currently on my phone and it works fine. And good cheap VPNs for the computer are VPN Jack(they have a free trial) or VPN Ninja. Very cheap and reliable. For now… also if you complain enough to astrill they will refund you.

try to use it on a friend’s pc/laptop to see if it is iphone related only or not… on android, they sometimes tell to clear the cache and set some other configs by tapping to the logo on login (though i bet their customer service already told sth like this to you as well )

Now yeah. But not when they first set it up. It was Cisco who did everything for them.
