Over the past few days any time I’ve tried to download anything the download has failed completely or stalled. Here’s some examples:
- Any downloads through my browser (I’ve tried Chrome, Edge and Firefox) will stall due to a network error, will resume just fine but I’ll need to click resume every few seconds.
- Downloads through installers ie. Unity 3D, Final Fantasy XIV will fail almost immediately
- Game downloads through the windows store will stall after downloading around 80MB
Downloading through a VPN solves all of these problems.
Things I’ve tried:
- Flushing DNS
- Disabling/Enabling Firewall
- Changing DNS to Google’s public DNS
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Just adding this as I had the same problem and nothing suggested here worked for me, but this did!
turn off ipv6.
Go to start, type in “Control Panel” Click on “Control panel” when you see it pop up. On the top right, if it says “Categories” change it to small or large icons. Open “Network and sharing center”, then on the left hand side click on “Change adapter settings”, then look for your wireless network connection in the list. It should be obvious. Right click on it and go to “properties”. In the window that pops up you should see a list that is scrollable in the middle. Find “Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)” and uncheck it. Hit “Okay” on the bottom and then try to browse the internet again.
Run Malwatebytes and Hitman Pro and CCleaner (Registry Clean)
Check your Hosts file for changes. Created a dummy user and try under that account. If it works your profile is hosed likely from malware.
Additionally you can insert a pin into your router and reset the settings entirely.
Thank you so much for the speedy reply!
I ran all three. Malwarebytes found nothing, same with Hitman Pro, CCleaner found a few issues with registry files and that seems to have fixed it, at least for now.
