I think you should probably look into shadowsocks. It’s a popular method of circumventing the firewall. You will need a subscription service and a separate client on your end. If Google 机场 you probably would be able to find recommendations on some service, though most of them will be in Chinese.

Nobody can mention names in this thread of VPN providers. So you won’t get an answer here unfortunately.
Also Chromebook is terrible for China unless you have a VPN router. You can’t set it up here without a VPN router. So make sure it’s properly setup before you get to China. But it’s not the best device to use in China to be honest.
Also, be prepared to lose access to Google certain times of the year. I have found that times where you lose access tend to coincide with political dates and events in China.
