My question is what is the difference? When I connect the app and it says connected the chrome extension shows it’s not connected. When I connect the chrome extension, it says the app is not connected. correct me if I’m wrong is it when I use the chrome extension my browser is running through the VPN and not my computer? And vice versa? When I’m running the app and it’s my entire computer that is protected including the browser?
Hey there, no worries - you’re correct in your assertion of the differences. They are separate and the extension only works on the browser that it is on, while the app protects the whole device, so you don’t need to use both at once. There are other differences as well, mainly in regard to the features. With our app, you can choose which protocol you want to use when connecting, meanwhile, the extension only uses one. Also, the CleanWeb in our extension works more like a traditional adblocker, as well as providing a cookie popup blocker and malware alert, while our app only blocks malicious ads and sites.
It creates a dual layer. If your app is running and you connect again, you will get a new IP address.
sorry if this is a dumb question, but if i’m using the extension but not connected to the vpn, do the adblockers and cookie stuff work? same with the windows app, if i’m not connected but the program is running does it block malicious ads and sites?
Hey, no worries, it’s not a dumb question at all. CleanWeb, our Cookie Pop-up Blocker, as well as our Website Safety warnings, will work if they’re enabled in the extension, even if it is not connected. However, the CleanWeb in our desktop, mobile and TV apps will only work while connected to the VPN.
