Is it possible to create a chrome extension so I can route only my browser through WG while my remote desktop is routed through a different VPN?

No. This is not how WG works.

You could run Chrome in a VM that has WG installed

WireSock for Windows can apply Wireguard to chosen applications. Like, one browser, two, or any chosen process/programs.

Technically correct. However, there is already a userspace application that presents a SOCKS proxy to access the VPN network.

So the same should be able to work in a Chrome Extension.
