Chromecast with Hola Unblocker

Hi there

I am in Canada and use Hola Unblocker as a VPN. I want to play American Netflix on my Chromecast. I have updated the Route Settings and added two static routes to make Google DNS unreachable, but there seems to be a second step that I am missing.

Everything I find seems to talk about using us-unblocker DNS settings, but I can’t find anything about setting up my router’s DNS settings for hola unblocker.

Any help is appreciated!

Buddy, get hola off your computer now. Ultra-popular Hola VPN extension sold your bandwidth for use in a botnet attack | PCWorld

Hola is a browser add on, not a DNS service like http://unblock-us.com, so you could only use it for tab-casting to the Chromecast. But don’t - as others have pointed out, Hola is evil.
There are plenty of DNS unblocking services, some of them free, but Unblock-us is a good place to start if you want to experiment. They have a free trial, and they offer good setup and support information on their web site.

Ad Free Time is the cheapest out there imho for just $2 a month.
this is what I’m using for the past few months and it just works with any region where there’s netflix.
there’s also another one which is getflix lifetime for $39.

OK I called and did some talking and I’m re-signed up for US-unblock’s free 7 day trial, but it’s still not working. I’m pretty non-techy though so I’m probably missing something.

I am using my Cellpipe 7130 modem from Bell. I am using Windows 7.

I went in Windows to “change adapter settings->properties of my wireless network”, unchecked IPv6, went to properties for IPv4, changed the preferred and alternate DNS settings to US-unblock’s DNS. So I can now access US Netflix on my computer.

I then typed in my IP address to the browser to get the modem settings page (http://tinypic.com/r/33a9ao7/9). I went to “Advanced Setup → Route Setting” and entered the 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 static routes like I had read in other guides.

Rebooted the modem and chromecast, get the show playing in Chrome and then when I go to cast the show on Chromecast it just gives me an error about this title not being available.

I’m sure I’m doing something super wrong but I’m stuck! Any ideas/help would be appreciated.

Thanks for the tip, guy!

Thanks for the hola tips guys!

I have used Unblock-us but would prefer a free service. Any reccomendations.

The only way I got it working was using the top post in this thread.

Your router needs to support iptables, not all do.

If you need a router, lots of cheap ones can be installed with DD-WRT. it’s not expensive.

Yeah, it looks like the modem/router combo from my ISP doesn’t have the functionality to support iptables.

What is a decent price for a cheap DD-WRT one?

I use this one…
