Cisco AnyConnect Windows Client won't connect to phone hotspot?

Hey All,

Thought I’d ask here as I am getting the run around from Cisco support.

I’m using AnyConnect on Windows to connect a client VPN back to a Meraki MX68

I’ve set this up, and it works great, but when connecting to any mobile phone wifi hotspot, it “just doesn’t” connect. No error, it just fails and keeps retrying.

Does anyone know how to fix it?

EDIT For clarity:After installing Any Connect, it takes over managing the wifi connections. It connects to my office wifi and the wifi of other users locations fine, but it won’t connect to mobile hotspot wifi of any user.

EDIT for Solution;
Thankyou to everyone who pointed out I don’t need all the extra modules, specifically the NAM module. By not installing that, we do not have a problem.

A Pity Cisco couldn’t tell me that. :slight_smile:

When you installed AnyConnect, did you install all the modules in the installer?

One of the modules that’s bundled (called NAM) will manage your Wi-Fi connections, for simple vpn you only need core-vpn and dart (useful for troubleshooting).

I’m commenting to see where this goes.

Are you testing at your site with the MX68 and is your phone on wifi? I felt really dumb when I figured that one out.

Anyconnect version?
Is it the latest? (Secure client)

Hey OP, am facing same issue with Mac which has cisco anyconnect and when I turn on VPN, the wifi internet through my iPhone hotspot drops, did you get any solution, please help me out

Thanks, this sounds like the answer. Will test asap.

This was the answer, got rid of NAM, got rid of the problem.

Might have to edit my post. It’s not that the VPN won’t connect, it’s that AnyConnect won’t hook up the wifi on the PC;

After installing Any Connect, it takes over managing the wifi connections. It connects to my office wifi and the wifi of other users locations fine, but it won’t connect to mobile hotspot wifi.

I’m not sure what you mean? I’m testing from outside the network; My phone is usually on wifi, but not the sites (mx68) wifi, my one.

It was downloaded fresh from Cisco, so I hope so :slight_smile:

Might try that. The computer will connect to the hotspot no problem, it’s only AnyConnect that gets upset about it :slight_smile:

Yes I did, after much googling and going around in circles with Cisco support, I eventually figured out that what was causing the issue was the Network Access Manager component. I had been installing everything that comes with the package.

Now I only install the VPN and start before login, nothing else, and everything works like a charm.

Glad I could help :slight_smile:

You don’t need to install that component of Anyconnect if you don’t actually need it, you can use just the VPN portion of AC

Do you have the NAM module installed with the VPN client? If so, do you have a profile created for that phone’s hotspot?

If your client is called “anyconnect” you are not running the latest version

Anyconnect was rebranded to “Cisco Secure Client”

Hey, I’m unable to find this NAM component and also all I got is Ciscoanyconnect.pkg file, when I am trying to install, nothing on the way there’s anything like Network Access Manager

Hi Im facing this issue in mac, using my iphones hotspot, any ideas how to handle it

This sounds like the solution maybe. I will see if I can reinstall it with less options. I recall when I tried this it got somewhat upset at me so I did a “full” install.
