Every time I download something from the web it starts out fine at the usual speeds I get, but then randomly halfway through it goes down to KB per seconds. I have tested this on many different sites, servers and countries and I get the same results.
I have tried changing the VPN protocol, restarting the pc, reinstalling the vpn, turning on the VPN accelerator and nothing has worked. I have also tried two different web browsers, those being Firefox and chrome.
There is nothing wrong on my end. My regular download and upload speeds without the vpn are just fine. And the servers I go to are usually not that full.
Does someone have a solution for this? I have had this issue for like a week now and I don’t know how to fix it.
They’ve implemented data caps for free users without telling anyone I believe. It seems the data caps are per server. You get full speed until you hit the cap, then it reduces to basically nothing until you connect to a new server.
To be fair, I’m fine with them doing that if they can no longer support infinite data for the free tier, just wish they’d be upfront and let everyone know since it differs from what their website says.
My guess would be that you are exceeding some kind of caching behavior - maybe it has nothing to do with Proton VPN?
I’m having a similar issue, I’m having to change server every hour it seems.
That probably explains it. That’s a shame but I can live with it. Thanks for letting me know.
It’s extra BS because they ignore you if you ask them. It’s almost as if the people don’t even know themselves. They’ll always say something unrelated without a definitive answer.
The fact that they didn’t announce it and just left everyone restarting their shit to figure it out is lame.
I noticed this exact same thing yesterday. I had to download 40 500mb files from the Samsung Privacy website.
I was downloading 5 or so files at once and they downloaded in about a minute.
I increased the number of concurrent downloads to 8 and the download speed went from 48mb/s to 14/kbs when I was half way through them. I paused the downloads, switched servers, and it resumed at the same speed I started with.
The downloads dying happened on Android, Stealth protocol over WiFi downloading through Google Chrome from the Samsung website directly.
The servers were US servers, and the load on each of them was less than 70%.
I’m from Sweden and I’m using a server from the Netherlands. I never had this issue before, this is new for me. I have also tried US and Japanese servers with the same results
Really weird. Hopefully it’s something on Proton’s end that they can easily fix.
