I use my own VPN and not the one Popcorn Time keeps promoting.
I did see this checkbox in settings and wondered what ‘Enable VPN’ means? I unticked it and my speeds are now much better, but I am also concerned that unchecking it means it is somehow disabling my existing VPN and instead routing through my private IP address? Anyone know?
From previous posts about this the ‘Enable VPN’ is an advert for a VPN which is affiliated to PopcornTime. It serves no other purpose than reminding users, if they require one, to use a VPN. Having it checked/unchecked shouldn’t make any difference to your speeds.
Then why does it say ‘Enable VPN’ and not ‘Enable VPN advert’ - I feel it is misleading as it makes me feel unprotected. Is it possible, if my separate VPN is running, for Popcorn Time to ignore it and use my actual private IP address instead?
I agree (and so have many others) that it is a poor choice of words for that title. From the many posts not only on here but on the forum site and the Github comments page regarding this topic all have been answered with the same detail in my posts. If you still have doubts then you can pose the question on the Github comments page again and one of the developers will (hopefully) satisfy your curiosity with a detailed answer.
Edit: Just my take - If the app did ignore personal VPN’s then this sub would be inundated with posts stating just that and, so far, on this sub (and the previous one) not a single person has posted anything about that.
