Error 720 while trying to connect to pptp VPN

Hi everyone,
when I try to connect to a network via VPN I get the following error 720:
“Dial-Up networking could not negotiate a compatible set of network protocols you specified in Server Type settings. Check your network configuration in network control panel and try the connection again”

I checked my: firewall rules, secret, ppp interface, profile and they all were good I even tried to connect from another pc on from another connectivity and I was able to connect succesfully.
But going back to the first laptop i still had the same error, I even enabled Chap on the network card but I still get the same error.

The router is a RB951Ui-2HnD v6.18 and both laptops have Windows 10 installed.

I was wondering if any of you had the same problem or new the solution?

Any tip on how to solve this is very welcome

Edit: I noticed that when I check the secret tab of ppp I see the time and date of everytime I tried to connect as “last logged out”, but there is no connection to speak of and it returns the same error mentioned in the post

Solved: Finally I managed to solve the issue, the problem was that was probably related to a Windows update, the WAN Miniport PPTP was unistalled and reinstalled the day before the issue manifested.

Enable PPTP logging on the router, and check what’s the issue.
Also, you should upgrade from 6.18 to at least the long-term 6.46.8

Are you using PPTP for any particular reasons? IKEv2 is much better in every way.

Already enabled it I’m gonna upgrade asap

If you can’t upgrade at once to the latest software, download minor versions in steps of five and upgrade via drag and drop in winbox.

Unfortunately my boss want it that way, I tried to hammer home what you said but he is really stubborn

You should him that it’s obsolete and has serious security vulnerabilities. I have some scripts that will setup IKEv2 on the router and clients in a few minutes. Windows has a built-in IKEv2 client so there is literally no advantage to using PPTP.
