Free Version of Hotspot Shield is secure or not??
Never Trust a free version of any VPN. High chance of your data being stolen.
Define “secure”? If you mean, will it encrypt your traffic to their servers and allow you to browse on an open wifi hotspot without getting your information sniffed by people there, then yeah, it’s secure.
But if you mean “will the company be able to look at my traffic and keep logs on me”, then no it’s not secure and the company can and likely will do those things. Plus I believe the free version injects ads when you browse, so that’s annoying.
Hotspot Shield is most emphatically not secure. For whatever reason, it does not actually mask your IP. While other VPN providers will protect you against websites using Javascript to determine your IP address, Hotspot Shield does not. Check it out for yourself here.
I don’t recommend using a free VPN provider, they have zero incentive to protect your privacy 
I wouldn’t trust one to be able to provide security, upkeep, or be able to defend against legal/other threats/etc
Stay away from “free” vpn providers, you will never know what they are logging.
