Google One VPN will be discontinued
In case anyone missed this part:
”Meanwhile, there are no changes to the free Pixel VPN introduced with the Pixel 7 series in 2022."
The usual Google strat of killing off anything that isn’t an immediate success. Nothing new here.

I’m not even over being mad about Google Podcasts yet.
I actually like having this one available when traveling and need to use public Wi-Fi.
Fuck this was THE killer feature for Google One. I paid for extra space for the picture storage. I’m genuinely peeved. Used this all the time to by pass blocks.
So other than photo storage what the hell am I paying for? Fucking Google.

That’s a shame. Having a vpn work so seamlessly like it did for me on my pixel 6 was nice.

But, but… I’m paying for this? So no price decrease for paying Google One customers? Just reduced services?
Pixel VPN sounds great, more incentive to drive customers to pixels. What’s not great is that it’s only for phones. What about the pixel tablet? What about my pixelbooks?

If it remains available to Pixel device users and to Google Fi users and if it’s also true that “people simply weren’t using it” - then they can’t be saving much money by removing it from the Google One subscription.
This might be more about incentivizing customers to purchase Pixel devices.
Stuff like this is why I don’t jump on new projects like Stadia. Google has a terrible track record of quickly starting up new projects and then canceling them after just a few years. They throw everything at the wall and see what sticks. If it doesn’t hit a billion users they cancel it, very annoying and makes me not want to use their new devices / services.
I’ve backed google through all these shut downs but I’m finally fed up. Nest secure was the big one that really put me over the edge and now every additional thing just pisses me off more and more. F google. I’m sick of them. Makes me more happy I moved to iPhone.
A VPN that doesn’t let u choose a location is useless anyway.
