Has anyone got VPN to work on a TV

I managed to install Astrill on mine, but it doesn’t work. Wondered if anyone had had more success.

Astrill doesn’t really have native support for TVs, you kind of have to hack it in. What I ended up doing that as ultimately worked great was just buying an Astrill router so that the VPN is on the network itself, since they are designed to do that.

Have Astrill on router and have it working locally on a Chromecast which I take travelling

I recommend getting a Merlin-compatible router and using that for your home wifi. Asus-Merlin is super-easy to install, and then Astrill VPN runs directly on your router and gets used by all your devices at home, including smart TVs and Chromecasts.

The only tricky part if you’re not tech-savvy is connecting to your router via SSH to install the Astrill mod, but once that’s done it works without any intervention. I find Astrill’s router integration to be better than anything else they put out such as the Windows or the Android app.

I have an openwrt router at home. Passwall is running on the router, all devices (including TV, firestick)connected to the home wifi have uncensored internet connection.

I have always been nervous to get the router as even having it installed locally it’s VPN on/VPN off, VPN turning itself on and off and so many issues.

The thought of having to connect to my router each time to do that has always put me off. Is that the case, or am I worried about something that doesn’t actually happen?

Are you using an Apple device? Used to happen on my iphone, the trick was to switch off the “connect on demand” toggle in the vpn managemnt part of settings (under general).

Haven’t had any issue with my home router, but of course YMMV

I bought an Asus router and put Astrill I on it myself. I sometimes need to connect but have always found the connection on the router much less like to drop then on my computer.

I use devices of all types lol and everyone has their own issues. I think I have the ‘connect on demand’ switched off, but I will check.

Can you still access Chinese websites OK through your router? I find services/sites in China don’t always play nice with Astrill.

Well Wechat and Gaode work fine, but honestly I’m pretty much never accessing Chinese websites
