For years I have had PIA (Private Internet Access) VPN running with AdGuard with no problem. A few days ago when I ran PIA I had no internet. I reached out to PIA’s support and after submitting a log they said that AdGuard was the culprit. Sure enough, I turned off AdGuard and I had internet. I then contacted AdGuard support and was told to exclude AdGuard from the VPN and to exclude the VPN from AdGuard. I was able to exclude AdGuard from the VPN but can’t figure out how to exclude the VPN from AdGuard. Any help would be appreciated. I have asked AdGuard support for help but it’s been several days and haven’t heard back.

AdGuard uses a local VPN to perform DNS filtering. Unfortunately, iOS can run a single VPN connection at the time. However, AdGuard for iOS is compatible with so-called Personal VPN apps. If your VPN app uses the Personal VPN profile (i.e utilises iOS built-in VPN tunneling protocol implementations like IPSec, IKEv2, etc…), there’s a chance you will be able to use it along with AdGuard for iOS.
As we can see, PIA VPN supports IPSec VPN protocol. We recommend switching PIA VPN’s protocol to IPSec, this will allow it to run alongside AdGuard DNS protection. Please use the following PIA VPN help desk article for the steps on changing VPN protocols: Understanding iOS Settings and Protocols.
As we can see, there are no other inquiries from you except for 896733 and 894726, which have already been responded to and closed. If you won’t be able to configure PIA to work with our app properly after that, please contact us at [email protected] again, preferably directly from our app, via Support section, and we’ll make sure to help you with this issue.
I checked both emails I received from AdGuard but could not find a ticket number.
If and when I hear from AdGuard support and get a fix figured out I’ll post it.
My problem is not with my iOS devices. They work well with my VPN and AdGuard, it’s my two Macs that both have the problem. The first response I received from support was simply an acknowledgment of receiving my inquiry. Their second response was to tell me to exclude AdGuard from the VPN and to exclude the VPN from AdGuard. I was able to exclude AdGuard from the VPN but was unable to exclude the VPN from AdGuard. I asked AdGuard how to do that and have not received a response. I will send another email to support@adguard.
Support will check again tomorrow.
