Hello, I subscribed to Nord VPN on the 18th November and it said I would be charged monthly, however I decided to cancel after one month. However, on the 18th Jan I noticed I had been charged £12.99 from Nord. I go to the billing section and it says I have no current subscriptions. And just a couple of hours ago I got another notification from my bank (NatWest) saying I have been charged. So why am I getting charged? I tried to contact support but they said they won’t refund. Should I report a dispute from my bank? Thanks in advance
Lots of things could have happened here, but most likely you either:
- Didn’t cancel the subscription on time.
- Tried to cancel it via a different platform than what you used to make the purchase.
For the second option, let’s say you bought your subscription via Apple/iTunes, but tried to cancel it via their Nordaccount website, since Apple subscriptions have to be managed via Apple exclusively, they wouldn’t appear or be able to be cancelled via your Nordaccount. (This principle would apply to a variety of other payment methods)
Furthermore, just because it says you don’t have an active subscription doesn’t mean you aren’t getting services, just that it’s not going to renew again.
Regardless, Nord can double check if your subscription was canceled or not prior to the second charge (via internal systems), and if you were told that not refund is possible, it most likely means that your auto renewal was still active at the time of the second charge.
The saving grace here would be if you are certain you canceled your subscription prior to the charge and received a confirmation letter of the cancelation prior to the charge, If that is the case, you may show that to Nord’s support and they will reconsider.
Dispute with your bank and have them issue a chargeback. You wont be able to buy Nord VPN with that account again, but if they are charging you after canceling I doubt you will be back so no loss.
