Hey fellow redditors! I’ve been dealing with an annoying amount of captchas and frustrating internet “blackouts” while using PIA. Has anyone else experienced this issue?
Also, I’m thinking about switching to Mullvad and potentially starting to stream a bit. Has anyone had any difficulties with streaming on Mullvad? Would love to hear your thoughts and experiences. Thanks in advance!
I subbed to mulvad and discontinued PIA. i live in the middle east and there was a week long outage of PIA servers, cant connect to em except for singapore and my current country of residence’s servers, so i switched for good despite it reconnecting again and resuming its service. So far im satisfied with mullvad, it connects fast in all my devices, around 3-4secs faster than PIA, has better speeds when im downloading restricted entertainment videos :: , and has better quality in terms of videocalls. the only thing i missed about PIA is that they have a dedicated server to my current country, which is useful for dating apps ( dating apps are restricted here too), mullvad doesnt have one.
Get ready for same amount of captchas. Streaming is hit or miss.
Mostly miss.
And bonus, pay more per month, because the genuises at mullvad "don’t believe " in long time customer commitment, which normal vpns offer to customers who don’t want to renew every month and rather pay for a year or 2, and get a discount that’s totally worth it.
Yeah, mullvad treats you the same if you are a new customer who just wants to try it for a month vs a loyal customer of several years. Doesn’t matter to them if you want to pay in advance and get a discount, like every other no logs vpn thats also reputable does.
Do you want to circumvent geo-blocking or just streaming on free sites?
For the later it works really good, about geo-blocking I dunno I never had such subscription because life.
So Mullvad is probably the best and most balanced VPN out there, and you’ll certainly have fewer CAPTCHAs (speaking from experience). But as others have said, they don’t support streaming. If this is important for you, it would be better you look into more commercial VPNs. But you’d be sacrificing torrent performance and trustworthiness.
If streaming is your focus, go for ProtonVPN. Mullvad is excellent, but it doesn’t work well with streaming services, as it isn’t their focus. ProtonVPN is excellent too, and works great with streaming services.
i second this. i have yet to find a mullvad server that supports streaming. this is the one i miss on PIA too, as there were some servers that support streaming.
100% disagree with this. I stream constantly and also share a Plex server to about 30 people all while using Mullvad. I have zero issues streaming anything and I have zero issues with the users streaming from my server. They might not officiallly support it but I have never had any issues at all and I am a heavy streamer and consumer of media.
People keep saying Mullvad isn’t great for streaming. What are you people doing? I have absolutely zero issues with Mullvad and I share a Plex server with other people too and they have zero issues streaming from me. Maybe I am just really lucky or something but I never have any issues with streaming whatsoever.
It’s something to do with IP reputation. If your provider has more IP, sufficient not to generate unusual large traffic from a single address, adds new IPs regularly, the user’s don’t do anything malicious, chances are you won’t have to face captchas and blocks much.
