You could download fine, it seems, but I’d guess you either have an internet connection that is too protective (or the internet provider just sucks) and is getting in the way. If not that, cellular data might not be that great. Aside from making your BNID, you shouldn’t have to use VPN.
Try resetting your phone first. If your wifi isn’t the problem and it isn’t late in the day, see if it works if you go elsewhere.
As I remember Mirishita doesn’t require VPN to login, I think it is just your network problem. Try another wifi or mobile data.

Your country may have started blocking the site or bandai is blocking your country, when I was running around El Salvador last year the imas games refused to load but I VPN’ed back home to the US and the games loaded just fine.

It doesn’t change anywhere else. I could play this game years ago without any problem and when I tried to open it for the nostalgia this happens. Also I tried to contact bandai support but it seems they no longer provide help with the imas games

Ah, could it be possible your BNID made years ago while set outside of Japan? Usually I’d set the VPN in Japan while making the entire BNID set in Japan. Could be possible that they clamped down on that.
Actually, your game needs an update. It still on the previous event so it’s an older version. Try updating it.

Personally I’d recommend jumping on a VPN, and have an entire alternate email set in Japan. Don’t use a local address, just a Japanese address - I’ve seen people recommend using government addresses like a post office, but if you have an address from a proxy delivery service, IMO it may be negligible but that would be better.
It is, hmm try clearing the data for the game in settings and sign in again.
Did you originally download it from the Play store? If not, the Play store wouldn’t have the updates available for you to download from a different country even if the app takes you directly to the Play store page.
