I guess it's time to find a good VPN

What VPN services are folks using? Ideally it would be something I could apply to both home internet connection and mobile devices. I don’t know much about this stuff. Does using a VPN slow things down a bit? Are there features I should be looking for?

Interested to hear what people are using and what’s good/bad about the different options.

Are you referring to the social media ban passing? If so, I wouldn’t bother for quite a while yet. Wait and see what happens. Those fuckwits don’t even know what VPN stands for yet, it’ll be months and months before they have something they can implement.

I’ve tried a bunch of VPNs and I recommend Mullvad. They seem to take their job really seriously, to the point of offering a bunch of payment methods that decouple your account from your payment. Speeds are good and it works well. Price is very reasonable. One account covers 5 devices.

Express VPN’s implementation was… weird.

PIA was slow. This was years ago though. Good prices, but.

Any free VPN is spying on you, with the likely exception of Proton.

I use Nord, can use it across 10 devices regardless of platform. Haven’t noticed any degradation in speed. Can’t remember how much I paid but I got a multi year deal that worked out pretty cheap.

Proton and Mulvad are the only answers. Please ignore Nord and PIA

10mins of research on privacy, piracy or VPN sub reddits will back that up

Definitely get a good VPN. Nothing to do with these moronic social media laws, it’s just a good thing to do regardless. I use Mulvad.

Give free trials with various services a go to test the speed and whether they work with Netflix etc

Mulvard or Proton are the best options.
Check out r/piracy if you want the full details and reasons why.

Nord. As long as you don’t auto renew, it’s actually pretty reasonable. Use it for individual devices and whole of network when needed. Plenty of servers, super quick and never had an issue.

Well you have a year before the social media policy begins, and there will be many VPN sales in that time, if it goes into effect. You have a ton of time to Google what works for you and wait for a heavy discount. Different VPNs access different things, like NordVPN will get you Netflix in other countries, and so will ExpressVPN except they’ll actually give you the time of day if you contact customer service. Surfshark is a good cheap and nasty one that’s owned by the NordVPN people, but for some reason they don’t want you to know that. Proton has a good reputation. Windscribe is a good free one if you don’t mind the Canadian policy of retaining your metadata for like one minute.

I’m happy with PIA. Works well with my NBN. Doesn’t play well with Telstra but I blame Telstra.

I’m going to recommend proton VPN even if it isn’t needed

From what I’ve heard, it “starts at the end of 2025” so they have plenty of time to cancel it

Proton VPN. They have a free option that works great with no noticeable change in speed.

Surfshark. Cheap unlimited devices. Works nice on phone and computer. Used to have express and ipvanish but surfshark works nicer (connects very fast, speed good)

You (and the vast vast majority of people) don’t need a VPN and the vast vast vast majority of people are just falling for marketing when using a VPN

Nord is good, Surf Shark and Express VPN are dogshit

Nordvpn is great, easy to use multiple devices allowed on one account and I haven’t had any issues with it (unlike Norton vpn which sucked)
