I wrote a guide for how to use Mullvad as a Network Wide VPN on UDM (Pro/SE)

Today I was trying to figure out how to use Mullvad VPN for a network wide VPN on my UDM Pro, so as I was bored I decided to write a guide for it incase anybody else wanted to use it to have there entire network use Mullvad.

I hope this helps some people who are less tech literate use it to add protection for there whole network.

Hi OP, getting a 502 when I try to open this link. Do you have those docs handy? Just got a UDM and want to do this

Can I ask a stupid question. How do you know the traffic is always going through the vpn / there are no leaks. Will it just not connect to the internet if it cannot connect to the vpn?

Bonus question - I should be able to do this with a UniFi Cloud Gateway Ultra right?

Hi, thank you for the howto! Is it possible to describe also how to route all traffic through the VPN?

Nice guide but I still don’t know what UDM means. Maybe this is about Ubiquity routers? Some screenshots are absolutely essential for this kind of setup to show context. Maybe edit it and provide this info, so that Google can cache it properly.

I can confirm this also works on the UDR. Thank you for the write-up!

Hey sorry,

Wasn’t on Reddit for a while. It should be back up(seems like the website gave a massive middle finger to me… I love hosting my own stuff  be aware I no longer use a UDM Pro so it’s possible steps have changed since

Ah ye thanks I’ll do that right away, I’m used to writing documentation for myself so I forgot my goal with this guide was to make it easy for non tech literate people to do

Well, your guide seems useful if it is for Ubiquity routers. I’m not a tech person so probably this is why I didn’t get the context.

You are correct it is for ubiquity routers, but I added a comment that UDM means Unifi Dream Machine. I also added images because you are right it does make it more clear :D. Thanks for the feedback

Using this method on my 1Gb symetrical link I get a speed of around 200Mbs. I am not sure exactly where the bottelneck exists

You don’t use Wireguard. OpenVPN is an absolute mess for high speed connections.

If you continued to read further then you shall see that is the conclusion I draw, with the asteriks that Unifi Network currently doesn’t support using Wireguard as a VPN Client.

I know, this is a technical limitation of the UnifiOS. Just don’t blame the speed on the VPN provider
