If TikTok gets banned in the US, would a VPN make it still possible to use?

Yet gen X and boomers drool of AI crap on fb.

MuH Cumminesse CCCPCC! MuH Pervate DAtuh! Foreigners bad!

Hey buddy, just roll in from stupid town? The only one brain dead here is you. American companies sell our data all the time to other companies in other countries. You think meta hasn’t already done that? Use google, it helps to learn what is really going on.

But not enough to really keep it interesting. Casual creators won’t make content for the limited users that will.

But can you still update the app if it’s banned?

Trying to use a vpn right now and its not working

I think it’s more about we set up accounts in the usa maybe.

The rest of the world uses them just fine…

“270 million VPN users
India has more than 270 million VPN users, who use them to access company networks securely, remain anonymous, access geo-restricted content, stay safe on public Wi-Fi networks and get around internet restrictions among other things.”

- google

And so then how many Tik Tok users at the time of the ban?

The reasons for the ban were different, resulting in fallout from border skirmishes between India and its neighbor China. In retaliation, TikTok and other Chinese-owned apps were banned overnight, leaving 200 million users of the app without their favorite scrolling habit.

When did India ban Tik Tok

June 2020

What were the stats regarding VPN use prior to 2020?

From Forbes

Despite restrictions, India secured 67th position in the VPN adoption index, with 48,892,979 downloads in 2022, up from 277,152,450 in 2021

In 2020, India was the second largest market for VPN with 45% of internet usage happening through VPN, up from 38% in 2018. ⁴

So almost half the Internet users got a VPN.

They really really don’t want to mention 2019 at all. Seriously you will spend all day trying to find out what the stat was prior to 2020.

Go to a site like Nord VPN. You can set up a payment plan pretty cheap and you access to turn on your VPN and set your location at one of their other cities.

I use Surfshark, and it uses an app. The app is very easy to understand. You just click “auto-connect” and it finds a location for you and you’re off and running. You can also scroll through the list of places that it can route your phone through, so if tiktok gets banned, you just choose a country that hasn’t banned it, and you’re good to go. There are lots of benefits, it masks your identity while surfing, it hides your usage from your internet provider and keeps them from slowing your internet down, and i use it personally to watch The Office on Netflix again. I just go through the United Kingdom, and they get The Office on Netflix right now. You’ll have to turn it off for certain websites, like my bank recognizes my usage and won’t let me log in, but it’s easy to turn it off and back on. Or you can just pause it for a certain amount of time and it’ll automatically reconnect after a while. I’m not advocating for Surfshark, I believe most VPNs work the same way, so shop around and see what you like. I use Surfshark for a deal I got that might still be available: 28 months for $75 total.

YouTube will explain it best to you.

Exactly, which is why I said that you have to download it from another link besides Google or Apple. Sometimes, it’s best to read the full comment before you reply. But what do I know?

Hearing a bunch of negatives from other posts… Sad day

I saw a video where the person said the data is stored in an Oracle DB States side so even spoofing the IP wouldn’t work. Said you’d have download your data, get a phone number in the country you’re VPNing from, and re-upload to TikTok. Seemed like a sketchy approach at best.

I think at that point, most people won’t even bother with the slight hassle and just use instagram reels or youtube shorts instead.

They allow sideloading in the EU.

You are 100% correct!! free applications like Google do track and monitor and watch your online activity, you sound intelligent enough that I don’t have to tell you the difference between an American and an American company like Google watching your activity and directing specific ads to you… on the other hand we have the Chinese Communist Party which I’m not sure if you understand, but the United States and China aren’t best friends, they’re considered an enemy! The difference between those two seem pretty clear to me… and I’m pretty sure I don’t have this extravagant unheard of intelligence… but maybe everyone assumes since we buy Chinese shit. that they are our buddies… :joy: :woman_facepalming:
ENEMY COUNTY VS ONES OWN COUNTRY

Literally. It isn’t just apps either. Most people’s PHONES access your data too.

FORREAL. Like oh no… china knows I ship jayvik…whatever will I do
