If you are unable to use your camera and/or microphone after the extension update to v 2.1

I’m writing this in hopes that people who use web-conferencing apps like Skype, Messenger, Webex, etc. will maybe find this. This is in regard to the Chrome extension on Mac and Chromebook. The newest version of the PIA extension automatically blocks access to camera and phone (and other things). No matter what you try to do in Chrome, you won’t be able to reset it so that you can get access. Google’s UI is not helpful, as it will just tell you that “an extension” has blocked access. It won’t tell you that your disconnected VPN software has taken it upon itself to block the camera and mic and a bunch of other things without asking you.

To fix it, you’ll need to click on the extension icon, click on the three dot menu, then click on “Extension Settings”, then click on “Privacy”, then uncheck the boxes by the camera and microphone, then close out of the extension, then try your call again.

Geez. None of this was functionality that I wanted in a VPN extension to Chrome. All I want is for the VPN to work reliably and quickly and kudos to PIA for improving speed and locating a VPN endpoint in Atlanta. I don’t need any of the rest of this new functionality.

Ben

P.S. To fix your broken Twitter login page, you’ll need to uncheck the “disable website referer” check box.

See my post I made here a few days ago. I included a link to an older version of the extension that isn’t a broken mess.

Dont use extensions :\ should be going into network settings and adding tap drivers and or adjusting network options if wanting to be “private” one hint of location and real ip is logged to residential ip and logged as VPN ip and saved as known vpn ip with actual res ip etc
