Hi all! I am new to r/VPN and have limited knowledge on how this all work.
I am from Canada and am planning to travel to Las Vegas for a week but have to log in to work (love work from home). I would not like my work to find out I’m in Vegas (through Gmail location activity). I plan to get a VPN and change my IP address back to my city in Canada
Would getting a VPN extension in Google be good enough to show my IP address as if I am in Canada? does anyone have any problems sending email in google with a VPN extension?
Any help/inout is appreciated, thank you in advance.
You’d set up a VPN at home and use that.
Is this company equipment or personal?
Do you have more than one computer at your disposal?
Using any VPN while you are away is only going to show you are at/around a specific region. Like the other post said if you want them to think you are at home you need a VPN hosted on your internet at home with all traffic flowing through your home network.
Setup a wireguard server or use something like Tailscale. Tailscale is based on wireguard but practically bulletproof when it comes to setup. Just make sure your desktop at home is acting as an exit node take your laptop on the road and using tailscale as a client you can route all your traffic through your home connection.
If you are unable to do that a round about way would be to leave your work computer at home and use something like teamviewer or anydesk to remote in at home that way.
Configuring VPN at home router is quite complex, It may also create some security-related issues. Furthermore, it has some additional requirements like you will need a static IP at your home connection to keep it constant.
I would suggest going with a premium VPN service provider, some of the VPN providers offered a dedicated IP feature, that will also help you whitelist the IP to our ACL-protected services.

Jebran.
Using a VPN extension in Google can help hide your location and make it seem like you’re in Canada.
But before you go ahead, it would be great if you could share the specific VPN extension you’re thinking of using.
Have you ever tried using VPN extensions for sending emails through Google before? It’s good to double-check if there are any compatibility issues or limitations.
Hey!
Sure thing, a VPN is a good strategy to hide your location. Google’s VPN extension can help, but it’s not perfect—it only covers traffic within your browser, not your entire internet connection.
Some users have reported Google identifying “unusual activity” when logging in via a new VPN server, so there might be extra verification steps. But generally, it doesn’t affect sending emails.
If you want full coverage, consider a standalone VPN service with servers in Canada. Check user reviews and opt for a service with a no-log policy for best privacy.
Additionally, a mobile proxy could be a neat solution—providing flexibility across devices while maintaining privacy.
This is good advice! VPN to home route all traffic via home.
