Is it normal for my wifi icon to be replaced by ethernet when I turn on the vpn?

is it normal for my wifi icon to be replaced by ethernet when I turn on the vpn?

Yes. Most of VPNs create virtual network adapter on Windows. By default this adapter uses config similar to Ethernet and corresponding icon.

This is normal. This is how they “tunnel” the traffic through the network “vpn”. It creates to dual connection, one physical and one virtual. The physical connection stays local and uses the virtual connection to be the main connection to the ISP.

I think it is.

Every single time when the VPN was on, that happens, at least for me.

Yeah I think the VPN essentially creates a virtual port so you can distinguish it from standard lan or wan connections, and it just so happens to pick a lan icon for it’s virtual port

SOMETIMES, its not an ethernet cable, and im very happy when its not ethernet cable, that basically means its gonna work and my internet wont be dogshit

what to do if it doesn’t change ?

Just happened to me today as well - Windows 11 Pro 22631.2861

It’s normal as the user stated above when you connect to a vpn is reading a separate network and putting your main “WiFi” network 2nd.
