To be completely honest, it’s illegal but you won’t face any consequences. I’ve never heard of anyone having any troubles for this.

Actually you are always free to download pirated media, but you can’t share it nor dustribute it afterwards. This is because you don’t actually steal from the creator and the entire blame and penalty goes to the uploader.
I have not paid for a single game in my entire life, no VPN or any other stuff. I have yet to see police at my front door

It’s not okay anywhere to download someone’s work for free. But who of us has never done it? My friend had legal problems when downloading torrents and had sharing of downloaded files enabled at the same time.
The last time I checked downloading copyrighted content was legal in Poland, but uploading (or serving) wasn’t. As torrenting is really both at the same time (AFAIK you can’t download without uploading at least a tiny bit), the whole procedure is illegal.
There were cases where people downloading content through torrents were chased, fined, and their computers taken from them. It was for the Polish content (some Polish movies, and some Polish porn).

Well, it’s illegal if the content is copyrighted and I know people who got in trouble from it, but if you’re ready to pay the fine in case you got caught, you do you. If it’s something copyright free, it’s completely fine.
