I see a lot of people fighting because Kaspersky is russian but Bitdefender this and that and bla bla, but I havent seen nobody picking Malwarebytes for anything, is it just not good anymore?
Malwarebytes has 2 versions
The stand alone scanner and the real time full AV.
The scanner is the best there is along with hitmanpro and a few others.
The Full AV is not so good though, it has certainly come a long way since it started, but it’s about as good as Windows defender if not slightly better.
So when people talk about AVs, no one talks about malwarebytes as it isn’t as good as some other options.
Predominately it’s only u/NutellaGuy_AU and their additional spamming accounts of u/DarkLegion and u/wolfpacksucks (probably even more) they use to artificially boost their posts and comments with upvotes hailing Kaspersky, then everything else is trash in comparison no matter how happy customers of other products are even when evidence posted showing the contrary. They’ve resorted to harassing as well to try and shutdown any ill speaking of Kaspersky, it all stinks of being some sort of Russian Internet Research Agency type of thing happening.
Always a broken record of Bitdefender is heavy, Avast sold personal data, Norton is this, and so and on. That’s where the fights in the comments where breaking out on, didn’t matter how much independent testing lab show other products had just as good detection and performance capabilities, suddenly those labs tests are supposedly paid to make Norton or whoever look good even though Kaspersky partakes too. Then if you post a mountain of articles of governments banning Kaspersky products, the founder’s spy agency background, and it’s board of directors packed with Russian defense industry staff, we’re just all brain washed by Western Media but not them that are totally Russi… I mean Australian. /s
To your question about Malwarebytes, it’s not trash, it’s just mediocre at being a full-time antivirus. They’ve really only been in that game for 3-5 years compared to the established names that have been at it 20-30 years. I’m sure in a couple more years Malwarebytes will glow up too. One thing that gives me pause about them is they don’t take part in any lab testing with any sort of regularity. If you don’t have those certifications, anything they might claim on their websites and marketing material just reads as fluff to me. JiTech has been the most current reputable YouTube tester I’ve seen lately and his videos also kinda reflect the “meh” ness of Malwarebytes at realtime protection.
Malwarebytes has a free version but you have to use the trial version first and then you can keep the free version of the app. It works, I downloaded test viruses and it detected them deleted them!
If I suspect a virus on my computer, I usually download malwarebytes and delete it after I do a scan. Not sure if this is correct, but thats just what I usually do.
Scary thing is I scanned on Norton like I usually do, nothing and then I downloaded malwarebytes and it quarantined a keylogger
Win def + free Malwarebytes scan is the best combo
They’re good to be paired with Defender.
i have mixed opinions about mb. i used it in the past, as with many other antiviruses. it was good i’m not gonna lie, but the major disadvantage with it is that it was causing lag on my pc and i’d have issues with games a few times. generally however i believe that windows defender is also doing a good job at blocking out threats lately so mb was the last av i used.
All I know is that I once asked Jack Rhysider (I think on Twitter) which AV to use b/c I was unhappy with Bitdefender (before they tried to charge me another year about six months after cancelling), and his recommendation was Malwarebytes. I’ve been pretty happy with Malwarebytes so far.
It’s crazy how everyone on this sub is such a MalwareBytes glazer but on this post its like “It’s fine I guess” lmfao
Sorry if I’m late… I used Malwarebytes for years I found it to be mediocre at best but the new version installed itself on my computer illegally because the previous program had a checkbox saying not to do so… To me that is a breach of trust that’s the first problem
it’s also too expensive but… It’s huge it’s bloatware and it’s slow and sucks resources. Why companies do this I think it’s because they think were all idiots and for some reason they want inside your computer desperately and programs that work on fear because of viruses seem to be the worst… Who am I a 20 year commercial Computer technician… Do I use Malwarebytes? Absolutely not. Just run your computer safe and here’s a tip get a program that can create what’s called a backup an image file. Make your computer as clean as possible and back it up. I’m not using other software but all I can say is I’m finished with Malwarebytes. Thanks for reading
i feel like malwarebytes is the virus
Yes it is, sort of, but it is not as good as they spruik, but the company behind it is even more trash. I had a top of the line MBAM which I paid for 12 years ago and it was running fine until this week then I tried to change my email address which had been scammed by someone on Gumtree (God help me, why) so I had changed all my other sites with the upgraded email except MBAM so after reading some of the stuff about MBAM removing the Lifetime subscriptions for Malware bytes Anti-Malware Premium I became a bit antsy and stupidly decided to upgrade my email adders at MBAM too.
Well that was it, I watched it happen before my eyes. Customer relations (a strange term considering what happened) took my Lifetime subscription number and blacklisted it and that was that. No matter what I said or what I did I was finished (they even suggested it was because of the scammer) and was left the free crippled version. Do not even suggest do this or that, nothing could change them as it was over Red Rover
So I got out my trusty Revo and removed every last trace of it (MBAM) and told them in the final remark that I considered them Greed personified and with far less morals than any lady of the night and nothing more or less than a thief!
Now I am sure that the MBAM apologists will jump all over this but that is the plain simple story. Do not compare it what their version of Dumb Donny will say! The FACT that I had paid good money for that App did not make 1 damn bit of difference as it was now 2024 and as someone else said “Greed is good!” and it is particularly good for Malwarebytes. They really do love that maxim! So guys look elsewhere as they cannot be trusted. I also agree with what wolfpackunr says about “meh” ness of Malwarebytes at realtime protection.
GK well past it user
Malwarebytes is not trash still good but not for the old computer. I use Windows Defender, Hitmanpro.Alert and Spyshelter ( You can Kill Malware from the Terminal) even I use all together they don’t slow my old computer. If you want to enhance your Windows Defender use the DefenderUI 100% free. DefenderUI Pro is free unitil 2025. No antivirus and antimalware software are 100% protection. You are the main user as long as if you don’t click the link the one you don’t know, mostly is fine. If you clean the temp files and run the optimize drives regularly, your old computer can run smoothly.
Malwarebytes is actually really good. I had adware malware once and Norton, Kaspersky, AVG, and everything couldn’t detect it. I finally used Malwarebytes and it got rid of it.
I swear by it.
I miss the old version of 1.75 where you could launch it on demand and update it on demand. I feel like the newer versions are more like AV which I don’t need nor want, I just want a simple on demand malware scanner…
MalwareBytes is pretty ok for a free option,i used it many times in the past since well…im a dumbass and try to watch and read shiet for free like an idiot, it has saved my ass multiple times.
so i recommend it for a free option
Best antivirus is common sense.
All you need is defender. and dont do stupid things like use cracked software on your pc.
