I’m currently in Poland, been wanting to torrent some new series (not Polish). Hesitating a bit cause read different opinions from past years. I know VPN is recommended but still don’t wanna take risk. Any help will be appreciated 
Downloading pirated content such as movies, series, books is legal, but further copying and propagating is illegal - that’s why torrenting (most of the stuff) is illegal in Poland. Except for the case when you torrent the open sourced, free thing, but I assumed that’s not the case :D.

Yes. The sharing part of torrent network is quite illegal. BUT…
…BUT as long as you pirate foreign distribution of media like movies, tv shows, games or software you’re relatively fine as no foreign company will hire lawyers in Poland to quote international IP treaties and enforce their domestic rights over the borders of Poland.
If you will try to get something made by polish companies or some translated-into-polish media with polish company having license for distribution, then you risk. We had some cases in the past where owners of the rights to some polish movies send legal notices ot thousands of people who were torrenting these movies.
technically illegal bit not enforced. Only exception is polish productions - for some reason they care about those (or post themselves and hope they will be able to sue people)
So technically it’s legal for personal use with exception of computer programs (so games as well). But in reality you won’t have any issues for pirating even without vpn, nobody will try to catch pirates that just want to play game for free or sth. As long as it’s for personal use you have nothing to worry about.
It’s illegal, but nobody cares. I torrent like there’s no tomorrow. Just don’t download typical shit-tier Polish productions, because the only way ZAiKS can make money on these is by harrasing people and taking legal action.
Dont touch things made by polish artist and you will be safe. Only time my friends have their PC checked by police was when they downloaded polish movies.
You’re safe with VPN (assuming that VPN app is decent and capable of stopping the traffic if VPN connection goes down)

Go ahead and download, shouldn’t be a problem (as long as it’s not Polish content, that could be risky).
Been torrenting since 2012, always without a VPN.
You can legally download, can’t upload tho
theoretically not sure. practically if you only pirate for yourself (arent the one who pirated the stuff or use it for money) you wont have any problems. I love pirating
