I need a dedicated IP address but live in an area where the only feasible option for connecting to the Internet is 4G LTE. I’ve been looking at Ivacy VPN to solve this but unfortunately they only seem to provide dedicated IP over PPTP which Pfsense doesn’t support anymore.
To test my options I set up some VMs (Pfsense and a rudimentary PPTP server). Using mpd5 from the command line I can successfully establish a connection to the PPTP server from the Pfsense VM. The interface (ng0) however is not available in the Pfsense GUI.
I realise this is an unsupported scenario but I would very much like to assign ng0 as a WAN interface. Can I force the interface to appear in the GUI or is there a way to configure this from the command line?
Any help would be much appreciated!
(Also, before someone asks, I am well aware of the significant security issues with PPTP)
I think you need to use OpenVPN Ivacy configuration file. Here’s a guide. https://support.ivacy.com/setup_guide/how-to-setup-openvpn-on-pf-sense/ The didicated IP part is where I’m a little confused on the setup. I’m thinking though at Step 13 for Outbound NAT destination you would set your dedicated IP from Ivacy… Not sure though.
It’s an ancient outdated full of security issues protocol but it works.
I guess you are right, and for home users I don’t care, nobody cares.
My thinking is always for business, and thus I give business answers. I would run away from any business asking/telling me they have to have a PPTP connection. But that’s just me.
