Hello, is it possible to setup the VPN on my MacBook and have it running and also run my ps5 thru the MacBook?

I am able to share internet connection from mac to ps5 no problem now I want to setup PIA so I can change servers the ps5 is on

Hey, I am searching everywhere how to use my Macbook as a hotspot for my PS5 but when I try to share my internet, nothing happens. All of that because I am trying to use VPN through my macbook too. Can you help me ?

Hi u/hutlet4, What are you trying to do? Are you trying to play your PS5 through your MacBook? If this is the case, then I do not believe that what you are looking to do is possible with our desktop application. As an alternative, I suggest that you install the VPN directly onto your PS5 - if you would like more information on how to do this, please refer to the following page on our website: here.

This is the only video I could find on how to do it, however the Xbox couldn’t connect to the internet after so ended up resetting and giving up.

I used the DNS PIA gave me to change the DNS on the Wi-Fi network on the Xbox but I still want to have full access to my VPN through my Xbox to change location.

Following along to see if this gets solved

If you can set the gateway on the ps5 to the IP of the Mac and you turn on IP forwarding on the Mac you can do it. Not sure if the ps5 allows that granularity of network control tho

Hi, I was trying to share my internet via MacBook so that my ps5 would be on a VPN.

My router unfortunately doesn’t support VPN as it’s a nest wifi mesh router, at least from my understanding.

Just trying to get location difference to play different games etc…

Ya it seems that PIA doesn’t support consoles as well as some of the other VPN’s.

I can run ethernet to my MacBook then either ethernet to Ps5 or wifi.

I wonder if a used a DNS that connected to my mac if it would work.

I tested a VPN for a month that allowed me to enter a specific DNS - running vpn on my mac and it changed location of my ps5

I have seen where someone uses openvpn client and supposedly it works

Thanks for the clarification, I would then suggest that you use our SmartDNS option on your Playstation as this would allow you to protect your PS5 and allow you to change the location on that device.

Here is a support article that walks you through setting up a smartDNS (note: that while it is for PS4 the steps should be the same on PS5).

You can use a DNS from PIA on the Xbox but it won’t give you the ability to change location
