Well, it’s in many places now… It is currently stuck as Sticky #1, it’s in the notices in the top right corner, top in the sidebar, and on the submission page text…

From what I’ve heard, PSO2TW is on its way to becoming a pay-to-win online game (like the majority of Gamania’s games in Taiwan). As a Taiwanese myself, my advice is to stay away from PSO2TW.

There’s 4 versions of PSO2 out now, in order of game content: Japan, Taiwan, Thailand & SEA (TH and SEA have the same content).

Yes, there’s a TW version of PSO2. In terms of game updates, it is 2 months ahead of PSO2 SEA.

I’ve been wondering that myself for quite a while now. The English patches really took off in the beginning, but they still could have saved the NA release (especially after all the PAX demo hype). But now, most people find the stuff linked here (and there and everywhere) for the Tweaker/Eng Patches.

I’m kind of thinking the same thing as you - why would they bother now? Most of the hard core fans that would have made it profitable in the beginning have set sail for JP (or quit), and many others have just given up on the game due to lag, too much effort/captcha, lack of news, etc.

If the rumors of “localization already done” are true, why not just open another server or two and allow players to access them freely - much Jagex has always done with RuneScape (free access + accounts synced across all Worlds). Or if some blocks are hosted on separate servers, shift those over to NA/EU (accessible in each ship), add more local patch servers (synced w/ SoJ’s patch servers) and a decent way to get AC and bam. Done.


But hell, even if localization wasn’t complete, they could easily ask the translation crew for a copy (assuming the patch crew says “sure”) and start from there. Get some employees for support (or publish a lot of good tech help tools/info in multiple languages), and you’re pretty much good to go.

(I’m far from a business guy - more of an IT/CS guy myself, so take the above with a grain of salt.)

In theory, i would propose to Sega to do what SquareEnix does for FF14ARR, multiple language version on the client but can still mingle with the Japanese players. (does not even have to have a na/eu server if financial issue is a thing, just the client is at least english friendly instead of actual multiple language french/german etc) but yeah, don’t think that would happen :frowning:

If they would put it on PSN for PS4, sellint it like 9$ and with the micro transactions of the JP version, it would be. And i’m sure there would be a big community on it.

ETA: that was kind of shitty though. AS didn’t release any sort of announcement about blocks or something, that reflects really badly on them.

The JP version will be what you want to play. Look in the sidebar/top drop down menus for AIDA’s registration guide and the PSO2 Tweaker. (AIDA’s guide will direct you to it, also.) These will do most of the hard stuff for you.

Here’s what I’m using (to download/EN patch the JP version):

Still waiting on the (25GB) download of game files, but it got me through account creation and verification fine. The couple things I had trouble with:

  • Japanese capcha - I actually had an easier time using the in-page “show keyboard” than the site linked in that thread. The symbol set was smaller and they were clearer/closer to what was shown.
  • The “choose your game” or whatever page - I had to copy-paste the names into google as they weren’t automatically translated by the extension. I just looked for one that ended in “2” (was the top option for me), pasted into google to confirm, and when PSO2 sites came up, I knew I had the correct option.

There’s server costs, promotional item licensing, support staff training/payments, potential (or lack thereof) audiences…

A lot more than translations have to be taken into account! But we can only really guess.

Well they can’t actually use the data for legal reasons and Sega of America might want to do some localization changes(but none as bad as what Asiasoft did I’m sure).

It’s not a perfect patch, sadly. The main focus in the beginning was the essential stuff. Then, Arks-Layer Kion came along and translated nearly the entire story on his own. Since then, a lot of the translation team has fizzled out or focus on certain aspects only. It’s all community based, and if you’re interested in helping translate/improve the translations, you just have to send AIDA a message in game or on the PSO-World forums.

For regular gameplay, the translations are pretty good. Yes, most of the flavor text is untranslated, but the essentials are all there. The story patch (which no longer requires a >1GB download) does cover the vast majority of the story - cut scenes included.

One of the biggest things that was never translated was the tutorial. If memory serves, this was due to most of the tutorial being image-based, which would require some photo editing plus translation.

Vita doesn’t have an English patch so you’ll have to play it in Japanese. The same rule as stated in the connection section of this post applies though. You can download it for free though if you have a Japanese PSN account on your Vita.

Did you install the Story Patch before viewing those cutscenes? The main and large files patches don’t cover cutscenes, sadly.

It may be possible, too, that the game files changed and the patches haven’t caught up, yet.

I would try reinstalling the story patch first, and then see if any of the event fields/cutscenes are translated.

Tweaker is only compatible with JP version.
