Hi, my entire family (3 people) is going to be visiting china for a month. I know there’s a couple of options for getting data/phone usage in china, three of which are esim, pocket wifi, and just adding international roaming from my US phone plan.
What would be the cheapest way for all three of us to have data/text on our phone for the whole month? Our phone carrier (T-mobile) offers 30 days of international roaming for $50 per line, which would cost $150 for the whole month. Would it be better to just get a pocket wifi for everyone to share?
Additionally would like to note that ideally we would want access to google products, so we would also want to buy a VPN or use a method like international roaming where we can circumvent the firewall. Thanks!
Check out Mobimatter, it’s a travel esim so will route traffic outside China and you will have access to international apps without a VPN.
You can get a 35GB esim valid for 30 days for $30 so that would be $90 if each person gets their own esim.
Alternatively, to keep costs down you could have only one person buy an esim and then others connect through a hotspot connection.
When are you going to come to China
I will suggest checking the offers from Trip.com, Nomad or Airalo, it is quite cheap and you can share the hotspot to the others, and you don’t need a VPN to access all your Apps. Alternatively, you can buy a physical SIM card when you are in China, but needs VPN to access, maybe the combination of these two is the best. For VPNs I advice you to get HMA or NordVPN they’re the most reliable. For the internet, check on Yesim they’re the best esim provider when it comes to reliability and pricing. Also, they offer unlimited data-plans So you don’t have to worry about your consumption and enjoy your time.
