No, you Don't need a VPN on Kodi

On my latest upload I highlight some of the areas where a person would not need a VPN:

  • Cut the cord user - someone who has signed up to a service like SlingTV / Hulu / Philo / Netflix etc, as these are totally legitimate services that are allowed to broadcast the content, there really is no need to pay for a VPN to use them. (Arguments regarding accessing geo-restricted content later)

  • Real debrid using Kodi addon / APK’s - As Real Debrid will download / torrent the content for you and the connection to the Real debrid servers is secured (ensure you have the option enabled as shown here ) it means your ISP can’t see what your doing. The only thing that will show (if they were to check the logs) is that you made a connection to the Real Debrid servers - thats all

  • Torrent user downloading copyright content! - If your home country is Spain, you can download all the movies / TV shows you like and its 100% legal. The only caveat is that you can’t profit from the downloads (i.e sell the movies). Other countries like Mexico / Switzerland also allow it as long as its for personal use. So if you are in one of these countries then again, no point of using a VPN.

You can see the full points and also the scenarios where a VPN would be recommended here

What exactly is Real-Debrid - See here

I just like using it so Comcast doesn’t really know what I’m up too, fuck Comcast

It’s worth noting that some countries (like the UK) block access to many popular torrent and hoster sites. So, although you don’t need a vpn to use kodi with realdebrid, it’s sometimes worth having just to see the results in a scrape. If you can’t search the site, you won’t see the cached results on debrid.

Those tutorial sites where they write a small list of steps followed by several paragraphs trying to sell you a VPN subscription really made a number on this sub.

How do I use real debrid?

Help me understand this here, is this related to something additional for router to use kodi freely and not worry about your isp being all in ur business? If so, can someone put in laymen terms for me. Thanks noob here

Kind of a dumb question but I’m still new to this. I went into yoda settings and turned off 1080 option. I only get 720 links now, which I assume is just stream links and not torrents. Is this correct? I don’t mind watching lower quality if it means no torrents and ISP violations.

Great post, thank you

What a loads of bull… vpn is useful no matter what, there is not just realdebrid or premiumize in most of the countries half of the torrent sites/streaming sites are blocked so yes, you will need a vpn to unblock the internet and additional providers. It is clear these “kodi onfo sites” are nothing more than an affiliated spam fest

Wow I didn’t know you’re information is safe when you use R-D services.

Yea I learned it the hard way.i was downloading shitty expendables 2 movie when I got an email from comcast saying I was downloading illegal copyright stuff etc.i almost shit my pants lol.additionally I didnt wanted to get caught for this kinda shit movie

They do. Your ISP always knows what you’re up to (I work for one) but they really don’t care.

What matters to them is your usage. They see high utilization from odd-ball sources that they’re not peered with appropriately. i.e. you’re expensive. You’re getting QOS’d first.

Correct answer, I’m not sure that OP fully understood the issue.

It feels like NordVPN is sponsoring half the Internet right now.

You can then (depending on your device / add-on / apk) link it to your real-debrid account. Once done, your device with be authorised to access the content on the RD servers.

Appreciated!, I forgot to actually link the video :joy:. Updated now.

1080 or 720, I don’t think it matters. From what I understand, streaming is fine, but downloading can get you into trouble.

this is completely unnecessary . If yoda even includes torrent scrapers it would only work with PM / RD , not directly

And limiting to 720p wouldn’t prevent you getting streams from RD/PM torrents anyways .

Just 100 percent , no needed and your reasoning is wrong

A few years ago, I got en email from my ISP in Canada stating that they had been informed from HBO that I had illegally downloaded GoT. It was none threatening but it was enough to make me look into other options than torrenting.

It’s worth mentioning that their privacy policy does state that they do log which IPs are using their service and what links are being accessed. So although your ISP can’t see, RD is logging stuff.
