Just passed my Sec+ exam with a score of 778/900, which would translate to 86%. Even tho how Comptia calculates the score is likely a bit more complicated. My journey started with the Core 1 exam at the 7th June, now almost 2 months later I’ve finally completed the trifecta!
The multichoice questions were OK, but as always there were a few of the typical ComTIA questions…were multiple answers is plausible.
I faced two different PBQs, one regarding firewall/endpoints-logs and the other setting up two VPN concentrator to two branch offices. The VPN pbq was OK, even tho it was not something I had practiced beforehand.
The endpoint/firewall log PBQ was a mess, mostly because you could only have 1 log open at time…1 out of 7 logs.
Anyways, I’m quite happy with my score.
Not sure which certification to go after next, I’m thinking CySa+, but after that I’ll probably take some vendor specific certs.
I’m really happy that I’ve never failed a CompTIA exam so far. My wallet is probably the happiest!
Materials used:
- Andy Ramdayals Udemy course, which included both course notes and a last minute exam cram. Highly recommend
- Practice Exams form the same source, they were ok, wouldn’t rate them as high as the course.
- Cyberkraft PBQ course on YouTube, also highly recommend.
- Crucialexam, sporadically doing the study mode questions whenever I felt the urge.
When it comes to rating the difficulty of the trifecta as a whole, from the easiest to the hardest:
- A+ Core 2
- A+ Core 1
- Sec+
- Net+
Net+ is defiantly the most difficult, I’d highly recommend taking the trifecta exams in order since they all build on each other. Net would have been even harder without the basics from A+. Same with Sec.
One last thing, didn’t get a single port question, so don’t panic if you can’t memorize even half of them.

( I’ll resist arguing about the percentages)

(Yes, I know that one cannot really argue about percentages when it comes to CompTIA)
