Hello, I tried emailing this to PIA support and they directed me to this subreddit. Hopefully you can all help (if not I may try to get a refund as the only reason I signed up for PIA was to use on my fire TV’s). I signed up for the service to use it on my Fire TV’s (I have 2). I have installed it on both fire TV’s successfully along with the mouse gesture app. I am able to change regions, but when I actually try to use the Connect slider, it goes orange for about 10 seconds trying to connect and goes through what seem to be all the steps - “building configuration”, “waiting for server reply”, “authenticating”, “getting client configuration” “assigning ip addresses”, “adding routes”, but then just goes to Disconnected and shows “No Process running” on the bottom of the screen. I have tried selecting different regions/servers in different countries and they all give me the same error. I have tried using PIA apps on my android phone and computer and they both work (I don’t want it running on my computer or entire network though as I use my computer for work and the VPN can interfere with some sites I use), but I am unable to connect with either Fire TV. I have seen other people mention this same problem online, but I have been unable to find a solution. PIA app is the newest APK available on the PIA site 1.6.5.1 and the fire tv’s operating system is Fire OS 5.2.6.6. Please help. Thanks.
Hi u/slow12s,
Sorry to hear about the issues you are having with the FireTV’s! If you haven’t tried changing ports I recommend doing so. Instructions to change the ports in our app below:
- Open the app, tap the settings button in the top left corner of the app screen
- Tap the Remote port option.
- Try changing the remote port to 1194, and try connecting.
- If that does not work, change the port to 9201, and try connecting.
- If that does not work, change the port to 8080, and try connecting.
- If that does not work, change the ports to 53, and try again.
- If none of those work, enable a TCP connection by checking the box for Use TCP.
- Try connecting to remote port 443.
- If that does not work, try 110.
- If that does not work, try port 80.
Let us know if that helps!
/u/slow12s, in my experience this behavior tends to indicate a firmware issue. Android 4-6 tended to have very spotty VPN implementation, and your version of FireOS is based on Android 5. If possible, please send us a debug log for confirmation - feel free to ask for me in your ticket submission.
I have 4 fire tv sticks on 4 different tvs using pia vpn, and they all stopped connecting the same day.
Trying to login to PIA VPN and it keeps saying login invalid or expired when it is just a new account this is on the Amazon firestick app. Can anyone help please? Also the WiFi is sky broadband and I have turned the shields off.
Worked me after months of issues thank you
Change protocol from OpenVPN to Wireguard. Read it from someone else in this subreddit and it worked for me.
WireGuard doesn’t allow me to access the different country libraries Netflix etc despite saying connected thru “X” country.
Worked like a champ thanks for the info
Switch to airbuses was the trick!
Wireguard wirked for me, I don’t see a vpn ip
Wireguard doesn’t work for me
I had the same problems with pia on my firestick. Today, I uninstalled the app, reinstalled, signed in and success. It connected right away.
Hello, thank you for your response, unfortunately I just tried everything above and am still getting the same result. It does not connect/turn green, the bar only goes to orange and then back to red
I was about to uninstall / reinstall PIA on my Firestick but decided to clear the data / cache first and that fixed the issue. This also explains why it works on other Firesticks but not the one I was using. May have to clear data / cache periodically. Don’t love that but…
Im having this issue, the port changes dont help and changing to wireguard causes it to say “waiting %S seconds between connection attempt” when ever i try to connect
Change the protocol from OpenVPN to Wiregaurd worked for me.
Is there an easy way to create a debug log on a fire tv? The instructions in the link are for a PC/laptop which work fine with PIA and if I bring up the keyboard on my android fire tv app there isn’t a control L option
Go to settings
Change ‘protocol’ to wireguard
We’re you ever able to get it working? I’m having the same issues with my Firestick
