Use PIA since 2018. As Euro expat in US, geo unblocking to watch some of the TV mediathek programming has been the primary benefit. Anonymity is a lesser concern
For several month geo unblocking stopped working, and made PIA rather useless to me. I am paid up to July 28 2021. To upgrade, only options are to sign up for 2 or 3 more years, with no assurance of a working geo unblock function.
Has NextGen been rolled into PIA, and if so, why can’t I be transferred into NextGen while my PIA subscription is paid up?

PIA hasn’t really supported geohopping for a couple of years now. Their official position is that it might work for some services, sometimes, but they don’t advertise it as a feature. A couple of years back they played whack-a-mole along with the other VPN providers but it got to be so difficult that all but a couple of services threw up their hands in defeat. There are only two popular VPN services I’m aware of today that are known for working geohopping. PIA isn’t one of them.
PIA beta has dedicated IP’s now, so you can select one just for you in the place of your choosing.
Try smartdnsproxy. Always works for me being in Asia for US and UK streaming. Free trial/
That stuff rarely works, since most streaming services will simply block VPN providers.
Ideally, if you are traveling, you should use the VPN server built into your home router if you need to access streaming services local to where your home is. There is also an added benefit of you being able to also stream from your home NAS.
Though PIA is highly useful for more restrictive networks since it can use a wide range of ports, and has a good chance at making a connection, which is great for public hotspots.

They gave up on Geo unblocking all together a while ago from what I can see, some other providers work fine and continue too through pia nope nothing.
Sometimes it may work an others not but personally I’d rather hit connect and know it works as with other providers an not dance around with pia an sometimes get a connection, if your lucky.
Can you possibly give us some tips here instead of making us root around an obtuse search engine?
Thanks for the heads up. Geo unblocking hasn’t worked in month for this expat, and I am paid up until 7/28/21, for a now useless to me service. I had to pay PIA an extra $5 to try a dedicated ip for one month, but the extra $ is about the same as signing up with Express or Nord (i am aware of the big hack), who apparently still provide geo unblocking. Best for me is probably to just stop using PIA, and switch.
The hassle of trying to get any kind of refund is probably not worth it, something they are likely counting on.
No problems and feel your pain I’m coming up on the end of my subs late this year. Thankfully I have a friend whom shares Nord with me so I just use that and have had no problem plus enjoy their new DNS unlock all feature from any said server, for me been working great!
Saying that I keep pia around for Linux iOS on a separate pc but it’s rarely used though for that it’s ok.
Edit: extra cost is why I ditched Torguard.
Paid $5 for dedicated ip to try for 1 month. It does work. But today I tried on one of our chromebooks PIA is also on, and I can’t find the dedicated ip there. If the dedicated ip only works on one machine. Having to pay for that on top of my PIA subscription (paid - 7/22/21) seems a bit excessive for just geo unblocking, which is all I need for German public tv mediatheks.
I thought Nord worked well in that regard.
Btw, I paid for the dedicated ip twice and am trying to get one refunded / credited, but the new PIA owners don’t make it easy to deal with complaints.
If I get tired of it, I might just remove pia and get another vpn with reliable geo blocking.
So, geo unblocking works good on Nord?
After their recent hack disaster, their annual subscription is very cheap (less than what PIA charges for dedicated ip only), and unblocking is all I need.

Depends what your after streaming really, as with everything it may work on some severs and not others so you have to switch them around etc but I find support actually do fix it if they know of the problem and it’s just usually one sever change.
I agree they dropped price due to the hack but also the three year deal which I liked, to me the hack was overblown and to this date nothing has been leaked from it (that I’ve seen personally). Though don’t get me wrong I’m not saying they don’t have faults.
For me it works for the following (ones I’ve tried and use) Netflix us, Canada, Japan & Australia. Peacock, BBC & Hulu. Happy to test some if you like though can only do what’s free/ I have access to.
