Pros & Cons of using an iPhone on Google Fi?

I’m considering allowing my kids to switch to iPhones, per their desires and the societal pressure on them to have iPhones (due to iMessage ostracizing anyone not on iOS).

I don’t really want to leave Google Fi. So, I’m curious, what does one give up or lose when using an iPhone on Google Fi (we are all currently on Pixels)?

No real cons anymore. Works pretty well. Maybe network switching or the VPN. But I never found that to be an issue.

Currently using an iPhone on Fi, absolutely no issues

The only issue is you have to follow a couple of simple but annoying steps after inserting the SIM card.

Our family switched about a month ago and the only difference I have noticed is the voicemail is in the Fi app and not the apple phone app. The Fi transcription is great and I don’t mind the difference.

It’s funny how a simple color change in texts can ostracize people, that aside, I have an iPhone 11 Pro on Fi and it’s been working as usual once it’s set up.

Gain access to iMessages by using beeper. Give the kids data only sims and save lots of money

No Apple Watch support

iOS voicemail doesn’t work. I assume this also mean iOS 17 advanced voicemail will not work either when it comes out.

Can you still text, make/receive calls on a web browser using Google Fi using an iPhone? How about receiving calls if the phone is off?

Major con… It is an iPhone. You will be converting your kids to the Apple enterprise for life and I believe they may just make people dumb. :joy:

Plus… You will be super dad for about a week or two.

Societal pressures? Shame on you for giving in. You are just feeding that crap.

Sorry to bring this back from the dead, but can anyone confirm that 5g works with Iphones? I know I read a while back (several years ago) that 5g was not available when using an Iphone with Fi. I have been a Google Pixel user for years and thinking about making the switch. But I travel overseas very often and rely on the international data with 5g frequently.

I still can’t get a clear answer if it utilizes Wi-Fi calling n iPhone . I’ve seen recent post both directions.

I require Wi-Fi calling so it was a no go for me.

Perhaps the real question here should be, “what does one give up or lose when parents make decisions based on popularity contests and being corporate pawns?”

I have poor connection quite often using 5G/LTE on my iPhone 12 Pro Max. Not sure what the issue is.

WiFi hotspot abroad i believe won’t work

Switch to Mint. $15/mo unlimited data per line. I have 4 phones and pay $60/mo for unlimited data on the same network.

Fi is overrated. And overpriced.

Con, it’s Google Fi.

iPhones work fine minus a few QOL features and android ecosystem based apps like gsuite.

Android will help integrate apps
iPhones are working phones.

Just switched backed to Android.

Didn’t have an issue besides setup and lack of mobile to PC support.
