Proton VPN app not proceeding beyond loading screen UAE

It is a known fact that Proton VPN faces problems in UAE.
Until my last trip to Dubai the app used to open fine and I could still connect to cypress for bypassing restrictions.

I cant seem to be able to use the app at all this trip.
This is the only screen the app is stuck at.

Been through hours of waiting, multiple restarts, and yet the app hasn’t worked once.

I am a paying user with 2 years plan paid upfront and 10years more in balance for auto renewals.

I demand a resolution!

Contact Proton support and be polite.

Reliable connections on a VPN in a country that bans them is always doing to be bit of a lottery as to whether if it works on any given day.

A lot of it comes down to your choice of ISP. The general verdict is that your odds are better on Etisalat than Du, who are more aggressive with VPN blocking.

Happened to me today, downloaded any other vpn. Turn it on, and then wait, resign in and youll be good to go

It is working fine for me and it always has, I am in UAE and using etisalat so maybe ISP is the issue, which ISP are you using? are you already logged in?

Try reinstalling the app

I am on iOS 18 as well

Did you try reinstalling the app?

I live in the UAE and I’m subscribed to ProtonVPN. Noticed that the vpn doesn’t work or connect when you’re connected to wifi (be it public or private). Only works when you’re connected to a data plan. Could be me only tho.

Im using Etisalat if that makes a difference since I saw it was mentioned in another comment.

It hasn’t worked for over a year and Proton doesn’t do anything to solve it. I’ve given up on it, cancelled my premium subscription. Also, don’t expect any support on here, full of fan boys who will just tell you it’s your problem. I got Mullvad instead. No uae servers though

This issue is also happening in China on IOS.

What is their fault if the UAE bans it?

Why are you in the UAE knowing their history? Also, better to contact support because it’s possible they can help you toggle things.

this is like my mum saying “contact nearest adult and be polite”

I have read the rules.
on iOS 18 I am not the only one I suppose.
There’s another post with the similar issue

Thanks, will change my ISP.
But still think the problem will persist if the app refuses to open.

PS. DU works fine on cypress, which I have used for over a year.

This worked out for me.
Thanks for sharing.
Though it is a pain to go through this every time the session expires.

I think the proton domain has been blacklisted or blocked by the government here.

I hope they find a fix for this.

It is indeed an ISP issue. My DU is messing things up with the connections.
I use a better protocol to bypass it though.

@AdmiralPonce’s solution worked for me.

Seems like my session had expired.

Using a different VON to login into their server got the app working for me.

It a DNS level block that persists on Proton’s website by DU.

This interaction has bought this to light and hopefully the support team will pick it up.

Works through wireguard

Use protocol as WireGuard TCP, only one that works for me

Also “allow alternative routing” could help

Cypress works well for me.
There are a few more countries that you can try like Iceland and Greece.

Vpn is meant to overcome these
