ProtonVPN vs Mullvad

Can you explain what you meant by it’s not good to use the same VPN provider as email provider?

Netflix worked very smoothly with Mullvad, just as it does on ProtonVPN. I had no problems streaming.

OMG!!! I didn’t see an announcement or anything :frowning:

Installing it when I get home from work.

THANK YOU!

That’s what I do, I look on my phone to see where it goes, and then use OpenVPN on the laptop.

It’s weird because Mulvad and even PIA clients have no issue. My job somehow knows to block the Proton clients, on all devices. Even the ProtonMail Bridge (for Thunderbird) won’t connect unless I am running the VPN.

So on Android it did not work either. I normally use UDP but I did download the profiles so I’ll try tomorrow and report back.

Have you tried to test both after ProtonVPN added WireGuard support?I’m interested in knowing the results you got since I’m trying to pick between the two.

I’m on a 16-inch MBP. Perhaps it’s a server related issue. Some locations are more stable than others (e.g. London, UK is relatively okay). I usually connect to Hong Kong server and gets disconnected a few times every day. Taiwan servers are the worst I think. Just did a reinstall and will see how it performs.

I brought up the issues a few time last year when I firstly got into Proton. It didn’t improve well all the problem I had still exists. They mentioned similar reason that Apple makes them harder to implement stuff into their app.

But I came from PIA and their app was almost perfect on my MacBook. The contrast was huge especially on the random disconnect thingy. I only switched due to them being purchased by Kape and I believe Proton is a more privacy respecting company than others.

But anyway, their Windows and Android apps work okay overall. I use Mac at work and sometimes the random disconnect thing is quite infuriating to deal with.

Sure you can always pay more, but that wasn’t my point.

Can you explain what you meant by it’s not good to use the same VPN provider as email provider?

Just saying that I would prefer not to have my primary email address linked to my VPN account. Fewer links = better. Also, more entities have to be compromised to get access to both.

He is trying to say, don’t put all the eggs in the same basket, I think.”

Who do you work for?

Okay, looking forward to hear the results

Hm I don’t use servers in HK or Taiwan, mostly USA, sometimes Europe and occasionally Singapore and I’ve found it to be really stable. I leave it on most of the time and barely notice it. I’m on a 2018 MBP.

You said Proton only allows two concurrent connections. That is plainly not true. That’s what I was responding to.

Nice try boss!

I work for a public school district, and they block reddit, so I VPN in lol

OK, here we go, on my phone, I get “Connection Failed, Gateway is unreachable.”

Client on Windows no connection, Smart, TCP, or UDP.

OpenVPN UDP, no problem, connects normally.

OpenVPN TCP does not work:

Yeah maybe their server provider in Asia is not on par with their own servers in the US and Europe. And the HK server is a total joke because I’ve just tested it and got lower ping when pinging google.com.hk from Taiwan server than HK server.

And also another complaint I have is that their Mac and iOS apps are lacking quite some features compared to their Windows and Android counterpart, like split tunneling and Wireguard. There isn’t a lot of setting to tweak in their Mac and iOS app.
