qBittorrent is not working properly with my VPN

When downloading torrents with qBittorrent my VPN isn’t registering any data down or up, it’s as if it’s downloading without using my VPN. I’m now worried my ISP can see what I’m downloading.

I’ve tried reinstalling qBittorrent and updating it but nothing seems to fix it and I can’t find anything online about it, I also installed Deluge to see if my VPN was the problem but its working normally with that.

It was working great before I don’t know what happened and I’ve no clue how to fix this any help is appreciated.

EDIT: This has been fixed by changing my proxy server on IPVanish (Deluge wasn’t using my proxy and made me think qBittorrent that was the problem).

Sounds like a bug. Check ipleak.net when connected and test the connection using the torrent link and see what comes up. If it shows your VPN IP, you should be good. The link doesn’t actually download anything, it just checks to see what IP addresses connect to it (it’s unique, so you should be the only one connected).

You can also configure qBittorrent to use only the VPN network connection in the settings.

Mmh wondering if this comment will hit the generateor as well…

I tested the connection and it’s showing my VPN IP, hopefully it’s okay then, thanks.

Advanced settings > network interface.

This seems to have been this issue I just changed it to ethernet 2 and its working now, thanks very much!

EDIT: This wasn’t the issue, I think it was my proxy settings on IPVanish that was the problem I disabled that when I changed my ethernet and thought its what fixed it, so after disabling proxy my VPN started working on any interface.

It doesn’t work with every VPN. When I attempt to do that it kills all torrent activity.

It worked for you, but when I attempt to do that it kills all torrent activity. It doesn’t work with every VPN.

Make sure your VPN supports torrenting and if it does then make sure they support it on all servers. Some VPNs designate specific locations/servers for torrenting.

Hey if your using IPVanish as your VPN and are using a proxy with it try changing the proxy location, mines was on London and wasn’t showing any data down or up and I just changed to Amsterdam and it’s now working normally for me again. I changed back the network interface that wasn’t the problem for me I made a mistake.

I’m using one of their P2P-ready servers. Works fine until I try to restrict Network Interface.

It’s a different well-known VPN, and no proxy. Using their newish WireGuard protocol.

Ok, it does sound like there’s a misconfiguration then, either in qBittorrent or maybe with your local firewall.

Check to see if the VPN client makes firewall modifications, and make sure qBittorrent is allowed access to the VPN network while it’s established.

One other thought:

You may need to set up port forwarding on the VPN side. In qBittorrent under Settings → Connection → Listening Port, you can set it up to use UPnP or just pick a port to listen on. I don’t use UPnP with the VPN, but I do have to set my VPN service up to forward that port to my computer when I’m connected to the VPN.

The VPN is identified as a public network, and qBittorrent has an allow rule for that. The VPN itself doesn’t seem to need firewall rules.

I use UPnP. I have no port forwarding.

Try not using UPnP.

Also, try not using WireGuard.
