Question about using Stremio on fire stick TV

I currently only watch stuff on Stremio on my phone, but have got the app ready to go on my fire stick TV. However, when I followed the instructions for how to download the app on my TV, the author made a big deal about how I’d need a VPN before actually using it, as it’s a lot easier for my internet (or Amazon or whatever) provider to see exactly what I’m watching if I use the TV.

Is this all bullshit to sell me a VPN or actually a truthful, friendly warning? If I already use it on my phone, is there any difference to using the TV app? I’m in the UK btw.

Edit: thanks for all the advice and help everyone!

To install stremio on firetv os. Download first the aptoide tv app thru the dow loader app from the amazon appstore. Then open aptoide tv, search for stremio and look for the one with a 5 star rating and install.

I have a firetvstick 4k which i have been using since last year. And never did I used any VPN. I van even stream a 60gb file from stremio via torrentio w/ real debrid.

Hi,

I have used on firesick for about 18 months and don’t have a VPN. No issues. What does the community think?

Yes, you should use a vpn for this. If you are not using an iptv service on top of stremio, i would get Real Debrid instead of a vpn. It’s essentially a database with the movies and series (torrents) already downloaded, so your internet provider can’t see what you are downloading.

I have downloaded stremio on my fire stick and some shows have sound but no image, is that normal? Have I done something wrong?

I have downloader on my fire stick HD, last version.

I’ve been using Stremio on the firestick for about a year, and have never used a VPN. I am also based in the UK. I would assume the author was likely in a country with stricter piracy laws.

Does anyone have issues with trying to access stremio subtitles in firestick.

do you think its fine to use the one that is not 4k?

Depends on if you are using real debrid, your location, how strict your isp is. Without real debrid you are essentially torrenting which may be illegal in some countries.

Ah ok, do I need this for my phone use as well?

Also, apologies for my ignorance, what is an IPTV, and would I need to download Real Debris on my TV app?

I also encountered too many problems when trying to play stremio off my fire stick. I don’t have any specific advice to help you sorry. In the end I gave up and just play it on my laptop hooked up with an hdmi.

I think you only get caught when you start seeding

Sorry for replying to an old comment

I got my mum a firestick for Christmas and was thinking of cracking it to put stremio on in conjunction with torentio for her but don’t want to get her in trouble with the ISP

Can I ask your ISP and what set up you’re using? She is on talktalk

its a service you have to pay for, its about £3.50 a month. If you have RD, you link the API when you are setting up the Torrentio addon with stremio. You can add it to other devices but you must make sure you’re not using it on 2 IPs at the same time. You can use multiple at the same time in the same house. Try look up a tutorial for the setup

Hey there,

I’m with Virgin and I have the android tv version of stremio on my firestick 4k max.

Man the first 2 times i read this I thought you were saying you were a virgin lol

Hello, may I ask if your movies buffer at all on the 4k max?

Unless its a really obscure torrent with little to no seeders, then no. Even for those obscurer shows/movies, I would use cinestream by dexter as that uses http streams and doesn’t rely on the number of seeders.
