Region lock, payment and subscription from Argentina. Please i need info and help

Basically, title.

Not so basically:

I am from argentina, and to be short about this, the game is region locked, at least to buy it from here.

I can see the steam page on my browser, so i can buy it thoretically if i use a vpn to buy the game, that will give me access to a key right? and then i can use my normal account (linked to ffxiv) to play it on windows directly, that is what i was able to find.

Now i got some questions, one of the payment methods for the sub is Crysta, i asume i can bypass that method and pay normally for crysta from my normal account on mogstation.

On the list of things i dont know:

-If i buy on steam, on a throw away account with vpn (now is when i am interested because the payment is 10bucks) will i recieve the code to activate it in my main account and play directly from windows ver.?

-Will i recieve free time like on ffxiv where the first time buy gives you 1 month? I understod it may be need ed to pay for the first character and the first month so i dont know if that becomes “zero” in the moment i create the character or if i am obliged to pay another 13bucks for the first month and first character.

-Will i need a vpn to play from Latam (Argentina to be specific) or will i be able to play with a little lag on my end?

Ignoring the fact that the theme about being able to use a vpn to buy the game in a throw away account of steam sounds doable but i am not so sure.

Please, i am grateful for all info you can give me, its hard to find info about how can i play this interesting mmo.

EDIT#1: To clarify, i dont have friend’s from other country that can buy the game for me, or that at least that i trust enough with my money. (argentina is poor xD)

First of all, why buy on Steam? Just another unnecessary middleman. Buy it from Square Enix’ store directly. There’s no region lock there - if Argentina does not show up in the country list, just pick a random country. As long as your credit card payment processes you should be fine. Definitely no need for VPN to play.

If you want to try FFXIV, get the trial separately. FFXIV trial is very generous - it’s not time limited at all, only feature limited (e.g. you’re limited to lv 50 and can only access the original and first expansion content). If you’re a casual player you could play for months before finishing all the free content, and when you do, you can buy the game and keep your character, but it doesn’t go the other way around - if you buy the game and then cancel, your character is inaccessible unless you subscribe again, so I wouldn’t actually buy a subscription before playing the trial quite a lot.

You receive free time. You don’t have to buy it on steam technically. You get 30 days of “free” time.

If you have access to Discord, it is possible to share your screen, and we can talk through getting it setup. If that interests you, you can send me a message.

Were you able to download the install files for the game? If you need to purchase the game here is a link to it. https://na.store.square-enix-games.com/final-fantasy_-xi_-ultimate-collection-seekers-edition—digital
If you just need to install the game and already have an account and content IDs try this link. http://www.playonline.com/ff11us/download/media/install_win.html

If you have 14 already it should be possible to get it going. I know people from all over the world can connect and play FFXI.

I have heard of a few who had issues in New Zealand and Australia. One fellow had to setup a VPN, but it could be something to do with his Internet provider.

Okay, I see. You may have to contact your bank, and put in a request for help to SE. Credit Cards in the US have an address verification step, so any attempt to use an address not listed as valid in their system for your account may cause it to be rejected.
When the local government here where I live decided to update everyone’s address, my bank kept rejecting the new legal update until I contacted them and insisted they update their system. Unfortunately there are two choices for the city name where I live, because of my zip code. So, even today I get mail that has my address wrong. If I try and correct a certain business, sometimes it will be automatically ‘corrected’ back to the inaccurate city name later. Even the property address on certain real estate websites will show some other location. But, I think part of this ‘mistake’ has to do with some political corruption, so that some of the votes that are sent by mail can be rejected if whomever is counting them wishes to reject them. “Oh, this address does not exist.”

If its blocked, he might run into issue now that CC info must be same as billing address. That’s assuming the country is blocked from purchase the game on the SE store as well. Odds are however, it’s a Steam thing.

Small note. It’s limited to the first 2 expansions and level 70 for FFXIVs free trial. They expanded it a while back

While i understand the steam buy is not something desirable, my current situation dosnt able me to have a credit card, because the payment for most of my work is under paypal, (with no bank account registered) and on cash. Most of the labor here is that way so its ok most of the time.
So, there are ways to circumbent the problem to buy from steam, like, buying steam gift cards to pay less in my country using Crypto usd (12.500 ars vs 16.000+taxes ars, so yeah, cheaper).
About the SE page, i tried 2+ hours to use vpn to evade the detection and list my address as from NA. All the vpn’s i tried gave me connection issues with SE store. Even tried to create 2 new accounts, but i was unabled to continue to the payment proccess.

A week ago, i bought the game from steam, because my country wasn’t listed on the official website. Sure i wanted to pick a random country, but then it required CORRECT address, phone numbers and zip-codes which i had non. I tried the address/phone number generators, and it didn’t work. I got stuck for a while, but then later when i bought it on steam, i got the the CD-Keys i would get in the official website.

Not only that, i got it from steam cheaper than from the official website, and now running it on Windower.

Thanks! that was one of my concerns!

Thanks for the help, the problem is that i cant use the SE store. When i input my addres, even fake ones, it return me some error, so i figured the best way to do it here is on steam. Maybe i will do a tutorial for newcommers if i am able to buy it.

Eeeh, i dont have a bank account, i forgot to reply here that in my country the work tends to be paid on cash most of the time, so i dont have the need of a bank account. I use mostly cash and paypal, and sone apps to buy steam creddit using crypto usd.

Seems that South America isn’t supported at all. Only regions are NA, EU, JP and AU/NZ.

Might be possible to circumvent using AMEX cards. Some stores identify them as US cards even when issued abroad. Also there are certain websites that give you prepaid cards without needing a bank account.

So, the thing is that, to my understanding, you can buy the game on Steam, but unlike FFXIV, you cannot pay FFXI’s subscription using steam. In other words, even if your Steam purchase is successful, you’d get 30 days after which you’d end up exactly where you are now.

Maybe you could try one of those websites that gives you a virtual credit card number? If you succeed, please post which one because there are other people in that situation as well.

Have you been able to create a Square Enix account without entering random details?

Mind that you can’t pay for the subscription through Steam.

Some banks want to see proof of income, and it is a little difficult to show proof of income to open a bank account, if you always get paid in cash. But, there may be a bank where you can open a savings account with a minimum deposit. Might have to make a few calls to see if one is available.

I heard it is difficult to open a Japanese back account, unless you are Japanese. But, you can get an overseas or foreign back account online from Panama from what I understand. If that eventually allows you to get a credit card that will work for overseas online transactions that might be something to look into.

If you use Paypal there may be a way to get a card from them too. Or ask a friend to put the transaction though so you can get the game, and then pay they back.

I’m referring to the billing changes SE implement in the spring and summer. There was a lot posts about it a couple months ago where some users were unable to pay their subscriptions for both 11 and 14.

I could buy crysta to pay it directly with my steam wallet, i do that for ff14, and i found that ffxi can be paid with crysta.

Its seems i mustook cryta for the game time paid directly through steam wallet. it can be done i suppose with ffxi to

I know it’s a late response, i just saw it. But yehh i created the SwuareEnix account without that random info that is REQUIRED on their website. But to play you HAVE to have alto put a card in order to make a character, which i did with my local bank card, and it worked.
