Residential IP service: personal experiences? Are they all scam?

Has anyone had a good experience with a residential ip vpn/proxy. With IP from the USA.

Are they all scams or is there any trustworthy?

Not all are scams, but there’s definitely some sketchy ones out there. In my experience, Oxylabs has a biggest IP pool and low risk of blacklisted IPs, recommend.

There are quite a few companies out there offering people money for sharing their Internet connection. These companies offer very real residential IP’s, though often under a different name. They’re not all a scam.

Which is not to say there’s nothing shady about their offering. Do the people sharing their connection really understand what they’re getting into? Are you being assigned the same IP’s as criminals? There’s definitely some questions there imho.

Your best option - depending on your use-case - may be what u/D0_stack stack refers to: business IP addresses. You can use these in a data-center while they still pass ‘residential’ checks for most websites. Better performance/reliability, betting pricing and less shadiness.

Not all of them are scams. There are a lot of reputed proxy services. You can check whether the proxy service is GDPR or CCPA compliant or not. Usually, trusted providers will have that mentioned on their site. Personally, I use Bright Data’s residential proxies. Their proxies are highly reliable, ethically sourced, compliant with major data protection laws, and have a good reputation which means you won’t get flagged by websites.

You probably mean those VPN services advertising that they offer “residential IP addresses”. They are often free-of-charge.

If you sign up for a “residential” VPN service, you are allowing people from around the globe to use your home internet connection. Basically, you are inviting terrorists and other criminals to abuse your internet connection.

Please remember that you are responsible for the use of your home internet connection. That is something to remember when law enforcement officers are banging on your door and putting you in cuffs.

You may risk several years in prison. Is it really worth it???

I think if the IP address isn’t flagged as data center, that would be enough for me.

How is it different a business IP address from an IP address from a regular VPN (from a data center)? I didn’t know about business IP addresses.

I’m interested in using a service that lets me use an ip address, not share mine.

Data-center IP’s are for data-center use and available from a large number of providers, including many very cheap ones, often used by VPN services.

Business IP’s are intended for on-premises use at your office building. These are obtained from a handful of providers that own connections to buildings other than data-centers. Think Comcast, AT&T, Verizon, etc.

For the right customer they will also route these IP’s to data-centers. Most websites will not distinguish on-premises office IP’s from those routed to a data-center, as long as the providers announces them the same way.

Some on those “residential” VPN services claim that if you pay for a Premium subscription your connection will not be shared with other users.

However, they charge a lot for a Premium subscription. Probably to make sure people do not pay for a Premium subscription.

Also, do you really want to install remote spyware on your computer and trust the company? Those companies are not trustworthy.

Not flagged by any of those unofficial lists. At least the public ones.

Bright VPN uses the business model you described. And then they sell residential IPs to paying customers under the name Bright Data.

I certainly wouldn’t share my connection with random people.

Just a question. Why do you want to get a residential ip vpn from the USA?

If you want to avoid geo-blocking to access streaming services in the USA Bright VPN is not for you. This is from their FAQ:

Can I use Bright VPN to access streaming platforms such as Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Disney+?

No, BrightVPN does not support streaming platforms at this time.

My IP Address - BrowserLeaks is pretty accurate, on my home ip address it doesn’t show anything in network, on my vps ip address it shows “VPSH, TOR, DDOSM”. https://ping.pe also shows “hosting” or “residential” and its pretty accurate
