Since connecting via NordVPN App Constantly contacting server

Howdy, I just changed my VPN provider to NordVPN and as soon as I connect via a VPN server the app is polling the server approximately once a minute. I have restarted the app several times and it did not solve the problem. I have closed the app, changed to a different VPN serve and once connected to the VPN server I start the app: same problem.

I am in the U.S. and I am connecting to a server in a different state. Web surfing is not affected. I am running Linux Mint, Mate 20.2 and I am completely up to date on the OS and the Tutanota app (v3.89.23).

I can send the app logs if you will provide an email address.

Thanks!

What are observable effects that you see? Do you see red-white ribbon on top of your screen all the time? Can you load anything?

My computer OS and Firefox all work normally. The OS is reporting no broken packages. I am connecting to the VPN server us5597LA-CA-.nordvpn.com.udp (the LA-CA is my notation). I am using OpenVPN ver. 2.4.7-1unbuntu2.20.04.0 and the standard Liinux Mint Mate NetworkMgr app ver. 1.8.24.

The Tutanota app works fine and I can receive, read, compose and send emails.

About once a minute the app shows about two inches of a horizontal line of dashes, pauses and then proceeds completely across the top of the app. Then a solid line repeats the same behavior as the line of dashes. The dashes and lines are green and I’m in dark mode.

In the past I have seen the above described behavior but at much longer intervals.

As soon as I revert to no a VPN connection the app goes through the above cycle with much less frequency.

Is there a setting for how often the app checks the server for mail?

All help and comments Greatly Appreciated!
Tom

Hey

Thanks for the reply.

I think websocket doesn’t work with VPN for some reason. I can’t tell exactly why that would be but I suspect it’s something about VPN itself not intercepting all connections and/or having big enough delay that websocket reconnects.
