Sonicwall VPN memory leak?

Has anybody else noticed that Sonicwall VPN client leaks memory? It consumes non-paged pool slowly and after 1-2 days renders a Win 10 machine useless. We were able to spot that with OS perfmon, but luckily we don’t need that anymore so the problem was solved by uninstalling the whole client. Nevertheless, active users of Sonicwall might still suffer from the problem.

This wasn’t an isolated event either, it happened in >40 machines that had the client installed.

Edit: NetExtender, version 10.3.1.

Yup, netextender 10.3.x leaks non-paged memory like hell(win11 aswell). I disable the netextender service when i‘m not using it but that‘s the reason we‘re not deploying the new version to our clients.

I believe 10.3.0 does as well

For everyone’s reference, is this the Global VPN Client or NetExtender and can you provide the version number of the client?

No issues here and we just rolled it out 7 days ago to about 100 machines, have been monitoring it on my laptop, and seems fine

Even when not in use?

Can you create a support ticket? If not, can you do the list here:

  1. Create a text file.
  2. Copy code below to text file, and after saved. rename the file from xxx.txt to xxx.reg. And then double click the xxx.reg
  3. Restart SonicWall NetExtender Service in Services
  4. After reproduce the problem, create dump file in Task Manager → Details → NEService.exe(right click).
  5. And then provide the dump file?

Thank you.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\NEService.exe]
"GlobalFlag"="0x00001000"

Anyone having issues with 10.3.1 being replaced by 10.2.341 automatically and it not working?

Ah, sorry about the missing information. NetExtender, version 10.3.1.

Yes, we had several machines that had the same problem without even opening the vpn once after reboot. Of course the services were running.

Great thanks, let’s see if anyone else reports in, I personally am running 10.3.1 on Windows 11 24H2 and have not had any similar issues.
