Steam Turkish region test

Since I have not seen people do any extensive test after the recent changes that got a lot of people reverted back to their original region, I wanted to do some on my own. That’s why I will be sharing my procedure and give updates on the well-being of my account.

First of all, my account is 8 years old, doesn’t have any restriction of any kind and has a little over 1000 games registered. Its region has never been changed before and it is using Steam Guard, linked to a phone number from a different region than Turkey.

The plan here is to make Steam believe I am genuinely residing in Turkey by keeping my VPN on 24/7 for 2 to 3 weeks when using Steam. Once the recent login history on my account starts showing a trend of exclusively Turkish connections, I will be changing the region of my account to Turkey. After that, I will wait another 2 weeks before purchasing stuff on the Steam store and see if my account gets reverted.

For the duration of the test, I will be using is PIA VPN, which, like I already mentioned, will stay on everytime I log into my Steam account in order to avoid any trace of my actual location in the log history. I will also be using PIA VPN on my phone if I ever need to confirm transactions on the mobile Steam app.

Additionally, I have logged out of every website that are affiliated to Steam on my browser, such as steamdb and the official Steam website, just to be safe.

Update 1: 18th of August, I have successfully changed my region to Turkey after spending a week without a single connection from my home country in the logs. I will now wait an extra week or two before purchasing games. Does anyone know whether it’s preferable to make a big purchase with lots of games at once or a multitude of small purchases ?

Update 2: 25th of August, my purchase went through flawlessly, here is what my cart looked like.

Update 3: 26th of August, I have been reverted back to Europe after trying to purchase FFXIV and Factorio. It is worth mentioning that my VPN has been active for the whole 2 weeks of my experiment (from 11th to 26th of August). Next time I’ll be trying Argentina but that’s probably not going to happen before a major sale.

Edit: I would like to mention that I had previously topped up my wallet using Steam cards (in euros) and market transactions (CSGO mostly), no additional transactions were made since I changed my account to Turkey.

I was able to change on a ~4-5 year account either the same or the next day, and I did not get reverted yet. I did use a VPN, but for you, I’d recommend using a residential IP so Steam doesn’t detect you’re using a VPN or if the VPNs IP happens to be blacklisted.

can you guys please help me with this . is seam saves your real ip immediately if you get disconnected in login history ? i cheek login history it was disaster so many country since i am from iran must use vpn to access free internet and because of dictator regime not all vpns works in here
i cant even use urban vpn its so good :frowning: must active other vpn then turn on urban vpn its good for login but after that i must disconnect i didn’t test that but looks like saves real ip immediately after disconnection some time its not even shows login history just shows error with red text . please also if you suggest me a free vpn for Turkey or Argentina

I got reverted to a region of my steam guard phone number during summersale. I’ve checked ip of login history and I can confirm not ever using that region’s IP. I use vpn to buy btw, it didnt trigger until I attempted to gift games to my other alt xD

some other info: account created with turk vpn, never change region in its history. funded with steam wallet 2 years ago and uses stemmarket to topup with items

Hey buddy
Thanks for your share of information.
Does your account get reverted from Turkey that you change it back again to it?

wow you did great job man thank you for this awesome feedback . it’s unbelievable than how steam revert works ! you just show to steam you are from turkey but still reverted ! that means there is no way to prevent revert

what do you think why and how they detected you

was you phone vpn 7/24 on too ? i think you must force stop steam guard after you are done with it so you can turn vpn then open steam app in phone

can you please test one extra thing ? with your vpn go to iphub .info ( search in google without space before ( . ) i write like this because bot remove link)

and see is that site give you a good IP or Bad IP this is so much important too

if its giving bad IP maybe this is reason

One important thing to note is that apparently some actual turkish residents have had their region wrongly changed while attempting to make a purchase. If true, this means what happened to you might have been just a bug.
Check out this steam community post:

Well, PIA VPN does have a dedicated IP feature but unfortunately not for Turkey.

proxy instead of vpn

So there’s a possibility that the region of the Steam Guard phone number is prioritized above all else to determine where Steam reverts your account region.

If that’s the case then my experiment will probably fail. I find it odd that this theory does not come up more often whereas it is indeed very plausible.

I think it depends, some people can change again after approximately one week, while some others have to wait 3 months.

It’s hard to say why they reverted me, but I tried to make an additional purchase the next day with only 2 items and that triggered the revert, so it could be that some games are flagged or just that my 2 purchases were to close from each other.

My phone was on VPN 24/7 aswell yes.

IPHub says I have a good IP.

Use Tuxler VPN. They do.

i think its because logins Click on Support - My Account- Data Related to Your Steam Account - Recent Login History

one told in every purchase steam automatically cheeks this page ip and base on highest logins reverts how ever i reverted to Hong Kong . since i am from Iran and there is no freedom we must use vpn even to connect reddit when i cheeked there was Russia Japan Thailand Iran Argentina ip but never used Hong Kong vpn its strange

Idk i use my european phone number on a turkish steam avcount and it hasn’t been reverted yet

Thank you so much yes if its good IP that makes guess so hard , maybe purchases must not be close to each other

my last question . did you bought all of those games in one cart( all same time ) was that from Brower or steam

I don’t think I am willing to spend 8 USD monthly for a VPN. I’ll have to stick to PIA VPN for now.

was a number associated with steam? Iranian number?

Yes, the screenshots of my purchase are from the same purchase and I was using the Steam client. I made sure to log out of any Steam-related applications on my browser for the test, including the Steam browser page and steamdb .info.
